Where to eat Italian food in Gloucester: The Best Restaurants and Bars

May 6, 2020 Sheron Bogner

Find out what Italian restaurants to try in Gloucester. With its sandy North Shore beaches, rocky outcrops, green parks, hemlock woods and wild estuaries full of shorebirds, it is no wonder that Gloucester has attracted such a rich and diverse artists' community. Fitz Hugh Lane, Winslow Homer and John Sloan are just some of the artists who have taken inspiration from Gloucester's beautiful surrounds. Still boasting dozens of galleries and boutiques, as well as museums, theaters and an artists' colony, the city's art scene clearly continues to thrive.

went in today for lunch and got a tuna sub with lettuce, tomatoes, and 'hots'. they use way too much mayo in their tuna salad and a paltry amount of wilted shredded lettuce and tomatoes. i shall stick to their pizza from now on.

I went here with my sister-in-law for some Arancini as recommended by Sebastiens in Gloucester who were all sold out for the day. They offer one flavor which is meat, peas and cheese. It was steaming hot and came with delicious marinara sauce. I found that all of the flavor was in the filling and the rice needed a little salt but the marinara was amazing. We also had a couple of slices of pizza which were huge and good but really thick and bready. Once again the highlight was the sauce. We took everything to go and the service was super fast. I'll keep this place in mind to satisfy future Arancini cravings. It would be a fun stop to grab some fried seafood and eat it outside by the water. The bill was about $24 for 4 Arancini and 2 slices

Maria's used to be our Friday night date destination. Their pizzas were flavorful, cheesy, well sauced with seasoned tomatoes. What in the world has happened? We won't be visiting Maria's any more and we're disappointed.Homemade crust??? I think NOT. Delicious sauce? I think NOT. Well seasoned and top grade toppings? I think NOT.Such a shame. The waiting line to just get IN this restaurant used to be out the door. Now, the restaurant is only half full. Such a sad ending for us, in a restaurant that previously offered delicious Italian

We went to Trio on a Thursday night and sat at the bar. We shared the mussels and a small vegetarian pizza. Both were excellent! The mussel broth was very tasty and a nice variation from the more typical wine based broth. The small pizza was a really good size (we had leftovers) and the veggies were plentiful with a delicious crust. Also, the beers on tap were $3. I will definitely return!

Delaney's Pizza

Researched "best" pizza in Gloucester and Delaney's seemed to be the consensus. Didn't realize it's a take-out joint, so we waited in their small, clean establishment till our pie was ready. Took it back to where we were staying and my son devoured it--I got a few slices. Very good. Thin crust. Sauce not too sweet. Perfect melty cheese. It was so good that we got it again the next night, calling ahead :)

This Italian seafood menu hits all the right notes. The food was great. I really enjoyed the stewed clams with beans. The appetizer of whipped ricotta, pistachios and micro greens was inventive. The bolognese was one of his favorite iterations of the classic. We are already planning to visit again.
