My grandma originated from from nearby. She cooked or at least oversaw the cooking. So I know that the Monferrato is Italy's richest and most diverse cuisine and mostly delicious. I have eaten home made Agnolotti and the ones I ate here on a par. The local wine was good bordering on exceptional. The approach to food is as expected. There is no menu, they keep bringing you dishes. You eat what you want and they take the rest away. As so on. It was a weekday and the restaurant was packed with locals. We ate upstairs. The proprietor brought us the food and joined in drinks after. I have not eaten this well for years and at the price I paid, not for a decade! I live in Switzerland and regularly migrate down to the Cote D'Azur when the sun starts shining. Henceforth I will divide my journey in two stopping off here. Thereafter my wife will drive! Well worth a detour especially as the surrounding is very pretty including a picturesque castle atop a nearby hill and a panoramic walk with sight of the Po river for those that need to digest a really good meal!

BillyBau brings a breath of freshness to the traditional cuisine of Piedmont and offers some more gastronomic 'opportunities'.Together with 'classics' such as âFritto Mistoâ, you can find delicious and delicate dishes such as âtagliatelleâ with Gorgonzola
My girlfriend and I were staying in Piedmont, Canonica di Corteranzo in Murisengo. This was wonderful indeed, but we wanted to eat out after many nights dining in.Through TA, BillyBau came well recommended. It was 'only' a 30-minute slopy ride, but well worth it! BillyBau is in Rocca delle Donne, a tiny village on the edge of the Po river (where the mountains stop). We could enjoy the tremendous views immediately at arrival. The place was slow, we were 1 of 2 couples. Some more people in the bar in the back. A wonderful host who makes you feel at home, explains about his wines and his dishes. Someone very proud of what he serves. I love it when hosts make an approximate charge for the wine you had.We added a good tip to the service charge. Great experience.Oh the food, well suited menu, local dishes, varied, good wines, everything you wish for. Unexpectedly cheap (51 euro, primi, secondi, wine, water, coffee, service for 2pp).Go, you won't be sorry :-)

Want a meal thatâs homemade yet fancy, mouthwateringly delicious but not too expensive? Come to Castello Gabiano and donât leave without dining at their restaurant Agriturismo 3 Orologi. The chef here creates art in the kitchen, worthy of any Michelin-star table where Iâve had the luck of dining. Only I never walked away from those tables as impressed as I did from here. I took my mother on a trip to Italy and we made a point of eating our way through Piedmont and Liguria for 3 weeks. This was one of the top 3 meals Iâve had on my many visits to Italy - and probably the number 1 meal on this trip. We ate a 4-course dinner here and a 4-course lunch the next day and everything was impeccable and delicious. Castello Gabiano should never let their chef go, because the dishes she creates are special. At the time of our visit in May, the restaurant was only open for dinner on Friday and Saturdays and lunch on Saturdays and Sundays, so do plan ahead. It would be a shame to come here and not eat at the restaurant. Top notch food with unbelievable views too. We cannot wait to return!

Generalmente il massimo non lo do mai. Per ovvi motivi naturalmente. Questa volta però è meritato. Dalla location all'accoglienza, dal servizio all'impiattamento... per finire ai piatti. Tutto perfetto. à presente sia la carta che un menù degustazione e le sue porzioni sono tali da farti arrivare alla fine del viaggio senza affanni e/o sensazione di pienezza esagerata. Conto commisurato all'esperienza. Consiglio assolutamente. Bravo chef Gori!

This is the archetipal local eatery with local seniors and more boisterous young adults rubbing shoulders in a 1960-70s setting. The two of us were likely the only travelers that day. The menu is served to all patrons at once, we just happened to enter minutes before the first course was due, few minutes before 1 PM.It included two first courses brought to you on a trolley - you can have either or a combination, we had risotto meant to be with highly prized Castelmagno cheese - it may have had a little bit of it, alongside plentiful more common grated parmesan or similar cheese - quite good anyway. As second course, you are offered a choice among half a dozen traditional meat dishes, plus one of two or three cooked vegetables on the side. Here we had twoOne was raw hashed steak - quite tasty if for their convenience they had prepared all in advance and pre-seasoned with plenty lemon juice for preservation. The other was mixed boiled meats - very lean so a bit chewy beef belly, cotechino cooked pork sausage - very tasty and almost light - and "testina" - that's veal head skin and chin meat, with very pleasant "salsa verde" a green sauce with lots of parsley, olive oil and some garlic and capers. Quite good overall, if the price of 15 Euros per person was a bit higher than expected given the overall combination of style and setting, taste and serving size - fair, less than abundant. Service is quick and friendly, unsophisticated still very appropriate.

Da Mario is a large restaurant serving the typical cuisine of the Monferrato region. As with most restaurants in the area, they specialise in a fixed-price meal and menus are not automatically proferred (but are available on request). For an all-inclusive price of 35 Euros, they bring to your table firstly a series of 8 cold and 8 hot anti-pasti (have as little or as much of each as you like). This is then followed by a risotto dish, a pasta dish, a fish course or a roast, and finally the local speciality "fritto misto", a selection of lightly-battered and fried delicacies, which will include most parts of a cow, polenta, vegetables and fruit. Dessert is also available if you can face it, but all we managed is a sorbet doused in vodka! Local wine is served to your order and is included in the price. There is also an extensive list of more prestigeous local wines available for additional cost of course. This is not haut-cuisine, just delicious traditional food of the area. The restaurant also has stunning views from the rear looking across the Po Valley to the Alps.

We discovered this place while visiting the Gabiano castle and we were surprised by the sophistication of this place. We had a very pleasant apperitivo on the terrace. The sunset view was excellent. So bad we didn't have more time to taste the food there. Maybe next time.
