Staying in the nearby hotel it was convenient to visit and a reservation wasn't required. Not being completely fluent in German I had to translate the menu, but most meals amounted to either pasta and pizza so it wasn't too difficult to work out a dish to suit.The meal was fairly reasonable in price but not too large, so I also ordered a side-salad to accompany it. Both meals were enjoyable, but all the tables had an absence of condiments and none were offered by the waitress - if anything they appeared disinterested in taking further orders, so I paid up and left.I later discovered they don't take Visa; I know many places in Germany don't, but it didn't occur to me to check first.Not a bad place, but other than the convenient location I didn't find a reason to return.

Forgive me, German people, but you - in general - cannot make pizza. I can hear the howls of derision as I type! But it's true. German pizza is some quasi, maybe American, maybe Italian disappointment. HOWEVER, at the Adler in Wasser - just outside of Emmendingen - one can find really very good, stone-fired pizza with all the usual (European) toppings, and cheap. By cheap I mean Euro 5 and up to no more than about Euro 8.50. And it's a good size. The take-out is prompt (a 10 minutes wait) and friendly (order at the counter just as you walk in to the Gasthaus). I can't speak for the food served within but I suspect it's good as well. Not an extensive menu but again all the usual Italian salads, pastas and pizzas one would expect in a small and somewhat out-of-the-way place. I've had some truly mediocre pizza in Germany but this is really good pizza, and affordable.

We came after having read about the place on tripadvisor. The place is located just out of the altstadt with a small cozy garden. unfortunately the food was pretty average. The bruschetta were nothing but dry bread with sliced and cut tomatoes. My wifes salad was boring. My side salad was just a mix of everyday supermarket vegetables in a random mix. The pizzas were ok but nothing more, so all in all 2½ stars. There are many better places in town.

Just had pizzas for lunch, so it is difficult to assess the real value of this restaurant, however these were perfectly decent, average size, with quite a good dough and tasty toppings. Nothing stellar but would easily deserve to be ranked in the "quite good" pizzerias. Service efficient. Price very reasonable.

We came for dinner last week.They have menus only in German and the waitress spoke broken English. I decided to go on the safe side so we ordered only basik Italian food. the pizza was ok but all other plates were sub-par by far.The worst was the spagety alio olio whice was served with tomato sauce???By the end of the day this id a pizzeria and not one of the best in town.Don't go if you don't speak German and don't order padta.

Rather little place Inside (couple of tables) but massive courtyard where you'll be pleased by laid back atmosphere and excellent Italian food even though served a bit too slowly (> 1 hour), probably because of high number of attendees that night.

The place looks swanky and expensive, but the prices are reasonable. The food came in large portions and are delicious and filling, similar to dishes that you could get in a restaurant in Rome. We ordered two different kinds of pizza, riso, pasta, and calamari. The calamari was one of the best I've tasted -- lightly coated in flour, tender, not greasy. The pizzas were also good, with a light and flavourful dough and good quality toppings, unlike American ones that are heavy and greasy and filled with toppings to make up for the substandard crust. The rise was also very good, with a generous portion of prawns. The waiters, despite there being only two of them serving the entire restaurant, were attentive and efficient. I will definitely eat at Etna again the next time I visit Freiburg!

3. Krottenau Garten

The Krottenau-Garten is a garden centre come restaurant come childrenâs attraction. First and foremost it is a garden centre with a huge array of things to buy for the outdoor enthusiasts. As importantly it has a very nice restaurant which serves local dishes all at reasonable prices as well a food section for children. But best of all is that children have a large section of options to entertain themselves in a safe and secure environment. They can run around in the garden centre, there are goats and chickens to feeds as well in a small play area. There was an old tractor they could climb. The owners also provide a number of pedal cars suitable for all ages including quite sophisticated tricycles for the older children. Our three year old just saw the play area, and ran off to explore make friends and have a great time. This gave as time to enjoy a nice meal.

Pizza, Pasta, Insalata ... gibt es auch ! Die Speisekarte bietet dem Kenner aber auch mehr ! Carpaccio , gegrillten Pulpo , Vitello Tonnato, frittierte Fischplatte und - man achte darauf: das Angebot des Tages! Unbedingt bei diesem Wetter drauÃen sitzen, dabei guten Wein genieÃen und sich mental auf Italienreise begeben!

What a lovely little Italian place, well managed by the owner and his family (daughter). Came here for dinner since we were in the area, and were so pleasantly surprised that we visited again couple of days later.The service was friendly and hospitable, both Pizzas & Pasta dishes we ordered were delicious & with generous serving.Great place and definitely recommended.
