"Aigues-Mortes" translates to "dead waters," but the salt marshes surrounding this medieval city actually have given this town one of its chief industries: sea-salt production. (Bring some home for epicurean friends.) Fortified into a Mediterranean port in the 12th century, Aigues-Mortes’ massive walls survive—walk along them for great views.

We were there with friends who ordered pizza and pasta which turned out to taste too bad for the price. Our menu came late. The others had finished the pizza when our main course came. The tauraux was good quaility meat with absolutely no spicing. The fish was small but ok. When finished the waiter dropped dirty cutlery over on my shirt. Instead of an excuse he came back with some hot water and a dirty towel and I was left alone with cleaning the back of my shirt. Whe paying I had to wait for a quarter of a hour to get the 10 Euros he wanted to keep a self tip.

Not having checked with Trip before entering, we were unsure what to expect, but the inside was nearly full so we hoped for a decent meal. We should perhaps have looked more closely at the menus, which were long! Usually not a good sign for a small establishment, and so it turned out. We both chose the Eu18.90 menu of 4 courses. Starters of melon with ham and a provencal salad were ok although my salad was well overdressed with vinegar. Main courses were seabass filletbserved with provencal vegetables and rice, whilst my wife had the veal escalope with pasta. This was overcome by the cheese! whilst my seabass was a small fillet, still with some bones and obviously cooked from frozen. Not good. Cheese course was ok, as were the desserts of Tarte Tatum and my wife's ice-cream. Coffees and a half litre bottle of excellent red wine- the best part of the meal. Service was a little slow but this was understandable given the number of diners. Very friendly waitress and reasonable ambience. Cost of the whole meal came to Eu54, acceptable given the 4 courses. Not recommended, there must be much better in town!

The amateurish and clownish service totally spoiled what could have been a nice lunch with our kids in a great location. We were seated for lunch when there was only one other table filled in the whole restaurant. The "waiter" took our orders but didn't write anything down soon forgot what we had asked for and to come back to verify. Despite there being water glasses on the table, at no point were we offered water. We had to pour our own out of a bottle we brought. The pizzas took around an hour to arrive, which is pretty shocking since they probably take all of 2 minutes to actually cook. With 4 children this was a bit of a drag, but we got over it as they amused themselves in the square. The real problems came when we tried to get our kids their ice cream (part of the fixed kids meal). We placed the order and waited over 20 minutes. With no sign of them, we asked the waiter what was happening and he asked us to repeat the order - He had totally forgotten that he had already taken the order. At that point we were around 90 minutes in for what was supposed to be a quick and simple pizza lunch. Despite asking rather forcefully for our ice creams to be brought quickly, it took another 15 minutes or so for them to arrive. Getting the bill was another circus. We asked for it several times and the waiter had evidently forgotten to write anything down so they couldn't calculate our bill and gave us another table's bill twice. Finally, we actually got up to leave and milled around elsewhere in the square, which finally prompted one of the staff out of his stupor to present us with a correct bill. We probably could have and should have just walked out on the bill and I doubt they would have even noticed.I was rather impressed with the restraint of the other diners in the establishment. Once the place filled up for lunch time service, others waited even longer than us for things as basic as getting a menu or placing an order. Some had kids and really seemed to be pushing the limits of their tolerance. In somewhat comedic fashion, the table next to us was seated by three distinct groups who all waited in vain to be even asked for their order. All of them got up and walked out before being served or even noticed by the staff.Throughout, the three guys working at the place seemed more interesting in goofing off with each other as opposed to actually doing their jobs. They were laughing throughout (at the customers it seemed) and playing juvenile games with each other that seemed to involve lots of butt slapping and crotch grabbing (I wish I was joking). They also appeared to be enjoying some drink while on the job. At least they were having a good time... My sincere hope is that the owner reads this and fires the staff or at least sends them for intensive re-education. If - god forbid - one of those clowns was actually the owner, I can only say that I expect his business venture will soon end and spare the rest of the public such shambolic treatment. I have never previously written a negative review of a restaurant on any online platform. This place was so bad that it motivated me to caution others. I fully expect the staff to try and rebut some of these damning comments, but I stand by them fully.

Under new ownership since April 2019 - Family run and a real gem of a find. Just off the town centre close to the boules court and where the twice weekly market runs.Sitting outside the area is cosy and shady by the olive tree. All dishes are freshly made and home made, great pastas, great sauces, lovely entrees and great Italian Peroni beers! Service was charming, and prompt. Prices inexpensive and offer great value. They only operate a lunch service or take away. Well worth a visit if not two!

Having already tried eating out in style in Aigues Mortes and paying 100 euro in 2 restaurants for mediocre meals, I went to Chez Cedric for a large take-away pizza and a portion of frites - enough for two of us to share with a decent bottle of local wine. The pizza was prepared in front of me by hardworking staff who spend their night in front of an impossibly hot wood burning open oven. The restaurant has both sit-in and take away services. We had a large vegetarian pizza and it was perfect - by far the best meal we had in France. Total cost with the frites was 12.50 euro, making Chez Cedric the best value restaurant we have been to for years. Places like this deserve to succeed. There is a basic, no nonsense honesty about the whole place and all the staff and incredible value for money. Just perfect!
