Discover Restaurants offering the best Irish food in Macroom, Province of Munster, Ireland. Macroom (/məˈkruːm/; Irish: Maigh Chromtha) is a market town in County Cork, Ireland, in the valley of the River Sullane, halfway between Cork city and Killarney. Its Irish Gaelic may translate as "meeting place of followers of the god Crom" or "crooked oak", the latter a reference to a large oak tree that apparently grew in the town-square during the reign of the English King John. Its population has grown and receded over the centuries as it went trough periods of war, famine, forced emigration and intermittent prosperity. In a 2011 census, the urban area was recorded as 3,879.

It may not be clear as no menu is on display but this restaurant offers a fixed 3 course meal.On the night we dined the menus were priced at £25 and £35 with additional costs for Steak and some side dishes. It was also clear that unless we went for the expensive menu we were limited to a choice of chicken or vegetarian. Not exactly a varied menu to start with so we were hoping for quality.Well , we were made to feel most unwelcome as we didn't require a starter.Clearly this upset the apple-cart and the cool disinterested reception we'd received as we came through the door just got frostier. My Lebanese chicken was interesting but rather cold and accompanied by one well cooked carrot and 3 pieces of less well cooked broccoli. The Sweet of rhubarb crumble was a disgusting sickly concoction that bore no resemblance to a home made version ; at the end I felt rather unwell. When it came to paying the bill ( I wasn't Paying ) the staff had devised some figure to reflect the absence of a starter. I suspect the figure came out of thin air as no explanation was given but it still ended up as a very expensive meal.In recent years it is possible to eat really well in N Ireland and given the hype on the restaurant's web site we were all bitterly;y disappointed. When poor value is added to a disinterested and pompous staff you have a recipe for disaster. This was the worst dining experience of the last 5 years and is the only restaurant critique I have made on TripAdvisor.

Wandered round Macroom on Sat lunch after long drive with cafes few and far between. So glad we ended up here and will call again when we are passing through en route. Proper cafe with lovely staff and good basic food and cakes. No frills, clean and recommended as I said we were veggie and she had no problem offering us a breakfast with good coffee.

Had an 8pm reservation and were sat right away. For starters we shared, between 4 adults, the tapas board and the halloumi. Loved them both and the tapas board was generously portions, the cheeses were fab! We each ordered a pizza thinking they would be small but we really only needed 2 to share... be warned they are quite large. They were are great, the meaty pizza was a bit greasy but that is to be expected. Overall overly Meal in a cozy little restaurant. We will certainly go again. They have a shop with their cheeses and such but our late reservation meant it was closed after we finished our meal so stop in before dinner if you are interested.
