Things to do in Taupo
I have stayed as a guest twice before. Unfortunately Kinloch Club has never been successful in serving a top notch meal during my stays. I decided to give them a third and final chance for lunch. When I telephoned to make a reservation, the woman I spoke to could have been the receptionist from the local doctors. No delightful manner or enthusiasm for her job. On arrival we were greeted by a woman who walked out and approach us to enquire how she could help. It gave the impression of a guard dog keeping the riff raff out. Walking through the lodge to the Resturant, as well as admiring the beautiful view of Kinloch and the stunningly put together interior, I could not help to notice the lack of cleaning particularly on the floors. Perhaps they are not wanting to disturb the eight legged friends who had set up home in every corner I looked. We were pleasantly greeted by a woman who served us for the rest of our âexperience â. She was a lovely lady but the service is not the standard I would expect particularly when this lodge is apparently on par with Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers. When seated at our table which was beautifully set, I wiped crumbed from, I assume, a previous breakfast diner. We had a magnificent view out to the lake. The seven blow flies were in obvious awe also as they were our constant companions for the rest of our meal. I ordered a steak sandwich. This consisted of a relatively thin steak on oats/seed bread with mescaline lettuce and onion relish. The steak was very tender, juicy and flavoursome. The relish was a pleasant accompaniment. My friend ordered the White Wine Platter. Seafood moose, prawns, shellfish in spicy Thai sauce, with salmon and a mescaline salad were served. All were very tasty and beautifully presented. Our libation of choice was served chilled to a perfect temperature. Our coffee was hot and full flavoured. A shame about the dried coffee stain down one cup. The manager was seen fluffing about. The fact that we were the only lunch diners in the lodge I would feel it to be of good manners for him to acknowledge us. Perhaps it was because we did not arrive by helicopter. A pleasant enough dining experience but having previously been blown away at above named lodges as well as the local Huka Lodge, it is unfortunate that the Kinloch Club does not come close. Walking out weeds are seen growing through the slate and much wax has been dripped onto the floors and rugs. There is no eye for detail. A shame.

Popped in just for a hot chocolate as Iâd already decided where to eat lunch. Hot chocolate was delicious, just what I wanted. The staff were kind and helpful, and didnât rush me out after Iâd finished. Excellent free WiFi too. Iâll be back for their sandwiches another day!

Lonely Planet says: Filling a spacious and airy 1950s house with colourful decor, Spoon & Paddle is more evidence you'll find great cafes pretty well anywhere in NZ. Excellent coffee partners with a concise beer and wine list, and the energetic and youthf
Highly disappointed in this establishment after reading such great reviews. We had a late lunch here and found the food to be incredibly disappointing. Soup was nondescript and the risotto was gluey. Neither dish was served hot. Service was hurried and not friendly. Dear WaggaTraveller,Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Positive reviews make our day! But if we've ever fallen short we need to know so that we can improve. I am very sorry that this was your experience in our cafe. 'Gluey' and 'nondescript' aren't words we want to read anywhere near our dishes. This winter season our soups have been super popular and the risotto always receives praise from diners (even Italians), so I'm confused and concerned as to why they were so poor on your visit. Not to mention lukewarm (completely unacceptable). I wish that customers would inform our staff immediately if the food isn't good enough so that we can remedy the situation there and then. However, if you found your servers unfriendly and occupied elsewhere, maybe this is why you didn't bring it to their attention. I have a great team of hard-working and caring staff, a couple are new though so I'm hoping that it was simply shyness and them getting used to their new job as the reason for the service not being attentive enough. Clearly I need to go over training with them so that they are friendly and approachable servers who will not only be easy to question if something is amiss, but also observant enough to notice if a customer isn't enjoying their meal. Please accept my apologies. I don't want anyone leaving our cafe with anything less than a big smile and happy stomach. I will address every issue you have mentioned including more training with both front of house and kitchen staff, so that no one finds our food ordinary or our service cold. I do hope you will give us another chance in future.

went for lunch in April 2019, was a nice authentic curry. however not much in the way of nepalese selection, considering it is advertised as a nepalese restaurant.Dear BoruThank you very much for taking time to review us and appreciate that you liked our curry . Regards to your concern about not more selection of Nepalese food though its being said Nepalese restaurant. I would like to inform you that we had just started Nepalese food in the menu during your period of visit and we had a few dishes only that might be the reason why you didn't had more choice. Also Malabar is not 100% Nepalese its Nepalese & Indian Cuisine. We are bit concern about your review that you visited us in April but the feedback came on September. Please to inform you that we had added some more Nepalese food in the menu we would be glad to serve you again.Thank you very much Looking forward to seeing you again
