Reviews on International food in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. Suzhou is a major city on the lower Yangtze known for its canals, bridges, pagodas, and beautiful gardens. These gardens were built and owned by wealthy families and emperors hundreds of years ago, and make for a pleasant place to wander during nice weather. Suzhou is also a major center for silk production and manufacturing, and a tour of a silk factory here provides an interesting and educational glimpse of this Chinese textile industry. Suzhou is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We enjoyed Wujie so much last year that we returned on a recent trip to Suzhou. The plates are perfectly presented with an abundance of subtle unami. The restaurant serves vegan dishes and alcohol free drinks. We were told we could bring our own red wine but white wine was not allowed. The reason I don't give this a 5 is because of the plate service. We ordered several appetisers and our main courses (shared dishes) but everything was delivered at the same time. Perhaps the menu should just list dishes rather than separating the courses. It would have been nice to enjoy the appetisers and take a break but by the time we reached the last dishes they were not hot. When I asked our server to slow down the message was not received in English, and unfortunately my disadvantage was not speaking her language. The restaurant was relatively full but the ambience is such that it's not noisy. I would go back again but order the appetisers first then ask for the menu to order the next course.Dear Plantpusher, Thank you so much for returning to our Suzhou restaurant and leaving a review! We're very sorry that there was a language barrier. Actually, we welcome bringing your own wine, red or white, but we cannot provide an environment for drinking hard alcohol including the Chinese "baijiu", which translates to White Alcohol (or white wine). Sorry for the confusion!! Also, I will relay immediately to our Suzhou team the error in the timing the dishes were served. It shouldn't happen like that at all. We usually will serve appetizers first and then only the hot dishes once the appetizers are finished. Thank you again for commenting, so we can improve. Looking forward to having you back!Sincerely,Cheryl
This restaurant is undoubtedly a âsafeâ dining option â the cooking is accomplished and never drops below an acceptable standard. Unfortunately, our experience never got beyond that - the only thing that seemed to be truly exceptional was the extortionate price charged. The Fireplace is on the third floor of the Hyatt Regency and, on leaving the elevator, there are no signs to tell you whether to turn left or right to approach the restaurant, which is at the far end of the building. Regardless, if you want to try this place, turn right. Once you reach the restaurant, the dining space is rather disappointing â the restaurant does not have a view of nearby Jinji Lake â why isnât it higher up? Indeed, most of the tables have no external view at all. The seating is also a bit odd. Whoever thought that sitting on a sofa to eat food at a table is a good idea needs to think again â sofa seats are too low relative to the height of the dining tables, and are angled so that people tend to sit away from the table. In short, the experience is not comfortable for most people. Then there is the âmuzakâ. So-called easy-listening music is tolerable in elevators or when you have been put âon holdâ by a telephone system. However, itâs not so enjoyable when you have to put up with it for an entire meal. At âThe Fireplaceâ you have the option of sitting in an area where it is quite loud or sitting in a so-called quiet area where it is still played but more softly. The one option you donât have is an area where it is not played at all.The actual food on offer was fine but very standardised. The menu clearly does not vary very much from day to day â there is a very limited âplat du jourâ choice and little scope for the (excellent) chef team to show off their skills. The Fireplace caters mostly for carnivores, with the emphasis on various types of steaks. While we were waiting for our ordered food, we were served some excellently made fresh bread with garlic and eggplants dips â all delicious. As a starter, I had a clam chowder. This was also delicious but it was served in a scooped out loaf of bread instead of a soup bowl. This strikes me as incredibly wasteful. Itâs not practical to eat the bread â after all itâs the bowl holding the chowder and, in any case, we had already been served some bread. In effect, therefore, someone has spent time and energy baking some loaves of bread just to make soup bowls that will be chucked away â how incredibly stupid. For my main course, I had chefâs spiced lamb rump. Again, this was fine, although I was not asked how I wanted it cooked when I ordered it, which seems a bit odd for a restaurant that prides itself on its meat. To finish the meal, I had tarte Tatin â again this was perfectly acceptable but not exceptional. What was exceptional was the price we paid â US$ ~130 for two people with two small glasses of wine seems to me to be on the steep side for okay food in a restaurant in China with poor views and wall-to-wall muzak.

Blue Marlin known throughout China as a growing chain for great food, drinks, and live entertainment. Live bands and DJ's play music until the late hours. Come have dinner, drinks, and dance the night away. This is your "Home Away From Home".
The newly decorated interior is more modern and relaxing as well as more trendy than before. Particularly, they are having on-premise brewing facility that offers fresh beers although I believe they got beer recipes from outside expert. The good news maybe there is still a pool table inside, though it is almost unattended. Food quality is still good enough. So, it is still one of my recommended restaurant and pub for those who like to have some western food in Suzhou in a relaxing setting.

When i was trying to find info on their christmas dinner buffet option, i did an inquiry and was contacted by Miyali (Restaurant Manager). She responded to all the questions i had to make the decision on where to book our family dinner. Very responsive and timely. When we got to the W hotel that night, all the hotel representatives from the front door to the restaurant location all delivered exceptional guest services experience. Very attentive, courteous and helpful. At the actual restaurant, The Kitchen Table, we were shown to our table fully decorated with welcoming yet simple Christmas greetings. Understand that China does not celebrate Xmas on dec 25, but bec they knew we were celebrating Xmas at their restaurant, they went all out to make it special for us. Full table service was provided, excellent food, service very detailed and extremely attentive. Shout out to the food service staff assigned to our party of 14, also kudos to the managers on duty that night, Bill and Jason. They all made our experience an awesome one. We are from LA, so it was important for me to find a perfect place to celebrate a special day with my special family! And we are all thankful we found the Kitchen Table at the W hotel. Thanks to everyone for making it worth celebrating there. Highly recommended place.Hello, Achieyu! What an amazing review! I am so thrilled to hear you enjoyed your family dinner at The Kitchen Table! Iâll be sure to pass on your kind compliments to our team! We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Visit anytime! All the best,Jose TorrazzaManager, Beverage & Food
