Reviews on International food in Rethymnon, Crete, Greece. Rethymnon is one of the most well-preserved Venetian old towns on the island of Crete. Its 16th-century buildings are stunning examples of ancient architecture, and the monolithic Fortezza reflects both European and Moorish influences. Explore the magical waterfalls, rock formations, and ‘"cave church" of Saint Anthony Gorge before taking a pleasant evening stroll along the colorful Venetian Harbor. Relax in a taverna over a plate of Cretan meze, like fresh feta drizzled with local olive oil.

In the old town of Rethymno, a modern restaurant, in an atmospheric and relaxing environment, reinterprets traditional Cretan and Greek cuisine. Along with the best local products, an attentive and welcoming service, Alana is ready to welcome you for a co
The restaurant is dimly lit and romantic but the downside is it is not easy to read the menu. We were 5 diners all with a wide experience of Greek cuisine and we needed a long time to decide on what we wanted to eat. The waiter was not helpful and the menu was limited and lacking in some of the Greek classical dishes. We were given the house starters: dry (?stale) bread and 3 accompanying sauces but these did not increase our appetite! When 2 of us ordered mussels, we were told by the waiter that he didn't understand what was meant by white bread and baguettes and that the dry bread was suitable to eat with the mussels. The others took different dishes and our food expert ordered an expensive steak but returned it to the kitchen due to it being over-salted and very undercooked. This is the first time it has happened in all the many restaurants where we have dined together in Crete and normally even sub-normal dishes are not returned. However the wine was good and the setting relaxing. Our experience with poor waiter service and prices substantially above prices we pay at good restaurants such as Othanas, and food that was acceptable but not remarkable for 2 (mussels), average for 2 and unsatisfactory for 1, leaves us with the feeling that this is a non-repeatable visit.Dear vikingdave100,We have taken notice of your comment to your recent visit to Alana Restaurant and are pleased that you enjoyed the wine and relaxing setting. On the other hand, we regret that your dining experience was not completely to your satisfaction in view of waiter service and partly the meals served. We assure you that we will take your comments as a strong reason to continue our efforts for further improvement.Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to prove ourselves to you during a possible future visit.Thank you for taking the time to comment on your visit. With best regardsALANA RESTAURANTPublic Relations Manager

We had visited Le Dome before and was fairly satisfied. In stead of greek dishes we ordered pork, schnitzel and chicken dishes this time. The dishes were very tasteful. We ended up visiting Le Dome 4 times. The dishes we ordered were large. The pork filet was served with rice, mashed potatoes, french fries and a delicious baked potato with garlic. The schnitzel was served with she same rice / potatoes except the baked potato. You do also get some vegetables, which is not common in all restaurants. They served us a garlic bread on the house as a starter some of the days. This was one of the best garlic breads I have tasted. The service is fast and the servants are smiling and helpful. We will be back next time we visit Rethymnon

What can I say thatâs not already been said ! We walked a long way in the sweltering heat to get to this place we generally donât return to a restaurant but this was an exception we visited every day for breakfast! And what a breakfast a full buffet of every food you can imagine all for a measly 7 euros . Agrilia is so welcoming and attentive she has a warmth about her not only that her place is spotless! Perfect! only wish she would set up in the uk she would be a sensation! But who would want to leave the haven of Crete to come here ! We felt the price too cheap so please leave this lady a big tip as she gives the best she deserves the best .a very grateful family of 3 x

Had dinner with our friend there, overlooking the port and Cretan Sea - which already ensures a great setting. We ordered their organic white wine (excellent) and a mix of everything recommended for that day - risotto, Mediterranean salad, sardines, and mussles. The portions were large and really delicious. We have rarely been disappointed on Crete, but this was more than an unexpected pleasant surprise because the dishes were much better than anticipated and surpassed our expectations and hopes by far. The services is very welcoming, fast, and not pushy at all. Highly recommended place, in every aspect: people, cuisine, and setting.
