El Cid is a hidden gem in Benidoleig (a real Spanish village), in the Orba Valley. Located in the Marina Alta area of the beautiful Costa Blanca area of Spain. As well as being a "community centre" for ex-pats (mostly British), including many activities t
Weâve just moved to the area and came here with some friends who recommended El Cid for a carvery (the only thing I miss from England!). Fortunately theyâd booked a table because the restaurant was full. The food was presented in a buffet with the chef slicing and serving the meat who genuinely seemed to care about making sure we were happy with it. We went up for seconds too because it was so good. We had the toffee sundae for dessert which was delicious with a salted caramel sauce to die for.We thoroughly enjoyed every part of the lunch from the wonderful food, amazing views and excellent service. We were never made to feel rushed even when weâd finished eating and drinking and the staff were friendly and professional. We wouldnât hesitate to recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

We visited with my in-laws who live nearby. It was a really wonderful evening. The restaurant looked magical with beautiful Christmas decorations. Lovely service from one of the most charming and efficient waiters we have ever encountered. The proprietor who manages front of house is equally charming and made us feel very welcome. The food was out of this world. Really superb. We honestly couldnât fault it at all and canât wait to return on our next visit. Quite a few reviews mention the price but we thought for what we had it was very good value - three courses each for four people, two aperitifs, two bottles of wine and four digestifs for 250e. For a meal of that quality that is very reasonable.

We visited one Friday evening to take advantage of their Tapas offer - 6 tapas and a bottle of wine for â¬19.95. We have eaten at the restaurant under the old owners but not since the new owners..Very pleasantly surprised. Now, to go with the stunning views of the Bernia range and beyond, you can also enjoy some very tasty, well presented food. A great improvement on the previous offer. Well done to the new owners.. wishing you every success.

A group of us visited this restaurant early in July 2017, having heard that it had re-opened. It is now open Friday Saturday and Sunday. We ordered from the menu del dia, - this is the same every day for July, I would expect it to change for the following months.Drinks were additional to the menu, which is out of character in this area. It was noted that a glass of wine was very very small. The starter was a choice of 4 starters of which we had to choose 3 - It was expected that we all chose the same 3. we did not as we could not agree which one not to have. Eventually the waitress relented and 4 of us chose 3 starers, and the other 4 chose a different selection.Main courses arrived however a bit sparse - half a potato, one piece of asparagus one piece of something else that i could not identify. Each different dish had its own different style of plate.I chose ribs and was dissapointed. Although the meat was tender, there was a lack of sauce. Those of us that had fish found it bland and tasteless.Desserts ordered these were OK, however 2 items were not available, and without consultation were substituted with an alternative. No Tablecloths, no linen napkins. We received the bill which was the highest we have ever had in this area. normally a good menu del dia is â¬12-15. This including drinks was â¬25.The meal left us feeling hungry and disappointed. Quality chef or not this was not worth the money. we will not be returning - any of us!On a positive note - the view could be ( on a clear day) Fantastic.

Foods - drinks with a cycling theme
Having spent 1week as a cyclist in the area this is the only cafe that I have been impressed with, great vibe, great food and excellent coffee. The best cycle cafe that I think I have been to, a wonderful place that I cannot fault.Very well done to the owners you have created a wonderful place for hungry cyclists.

The Black Apple Bistro offers a vibrant and friendly atmosphere, with a new and unique concept of food.
We have just returned from having a superb lunch at the Black Apple. Food was excellent, small menu and huge portions. All freshly made and served by a friendly staff. Wish we could still be here for âFizzy Fridayâ! Definitely we will be returning .

This is a staple of good food in the Jalon Valley. The food is consistently good and despite what you may have read previously the service is great, staff are very attentive. Do not hesitate on going here, Estofado de Abuela is not to be missed!

A fantastic rustic retreat for a great afternoon. Feels like the hidden Spain. Guitarists play while you are enjoying a well cooked meal with the vino flowing. Important to have a dedicated non drinker for the drive to and from, but highly recommended.

My family of 5 had a great family dinner at El Paradiso. For the children there was either the choice of participating with the regular menu or pick either spaghetti, chicken nuggets or a burger. Two opted for the spaghetti and one for the regular menu. The local wine was nicely chilled, the starters are fixed unless you donât eat meat or fish. We had fish and lam and both were really nice! The management is really friendly and we would come back for the nice atmosphere. At the end the bill was only 70 euro so great value for money!
