Reviews on International food in Nara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. Thirteen hundred years ago, Nara (then Heiju-kyu) was the imperial capital of Japan. "Old Japan" is still easy to spot here, from Great Buddha Hall to traditional ryokans and the serene Isuien garden. Travelers rave about walking tours of Nara, particularly in the historic Naramachi merchant area.

This buffet restaurant serves a wide selection of dishes, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This restaurant serves local foods breakfast, âTonyu-nabeâ hot pot made with soybean milk, âCha-gayuâ rice porridge, âKakinoha-zushiâ regional sushi developed in N
We did not have any room in this hotel but only tested the " All you can eat " buffet restaurant " that is one of the 5 restaurants of the big NIKKO hotel, located just in front of the Nara central JR Station. The quality of this both international and Japanese food is very good but the choice is somewhat limited. The dishes are served in very small plates that are not kept hot and often get empty. Furthermore, the restaurant does not provide microwave ovens to reheat the food and waiters and their managers, that spoke very little English, never wanted to bring our plates the kitchen to reheat our food. This attitude is very surprising in Japan, where people are usually very helpful. So we left our full cold plates on the corner of the table and helped us with new plates full of hot food. This restaurant is however a good value for money for the tourist city of Nara: Price: 2000 yens for lunch and 3000 yens for dinner.

We stumbled upon this restaurant after spending the mandatory hour or so being hassled by the deer in Nara Park. Only 200m or so before reaching the Nara Station the Aida restaurant offers a great value lunch in a pleasant situation, with lovely staff and good food. For JPY800 you get to choose between a tempura set and a 'spring roll' set - each coming with a bowl of miso soup, rice, a pickled salad in addition to the 'main' course item. Great value, good food and lovely staff. This cosy, two-level restaurant was proving popular with locals and visitors alike so they must be doing something right

Nice new cafe restaurant, with a set menu that is a great deal. Fast and friendly service, and the food was great too. A good choice and very convibient to end a morning visit to Nara from either Osaka or Kyoto (picture is the dessert from this set menu, only 1280 yen)

Please enjoy food and drinks in open-air space with mild sunlight. This peaceful space is suitable for waiting, chatting and business meetings. Please enjoy seasonal sweets and/or light meals for a quick snack.
