Boucherie

Boucherie was recommended by several musicians we know. The location is uptown just off of Carrollton St. The restaurant is in a small house. You feel like you are dining in a friend’s home. Very cozy and casual. The food is off the charts good. Very creative Southern food with an Asian twist. We started with the mussels with collard greens. Simply outstanding! Our entrees and cocktails were excellent as well. We love the bartender- very friendly and engaging. Prices were reasonable. Both my husband and I walked out of Boucherie with big smiles.

Juan's Flying Burrito

My friends and I picked up food here to bring home and eat on a Sunday night. It was Super Bowl Sunday and it was well underway (we weren’t watching, anti-Superbowl Duh) so the place was pretty packed. It took about 15-20 minutes to get our food which wasn’t horrible considering how packed it was. We all got burritos and queso and guacamole. The queso was okay. Didn’t knock me out but wasn’t terrible. The guac definitely left something to be desired. I got a veggie burrito and for some reason broccoli was one of the veggies in the burrito. It was pretty odd. The burrito itself, again, was fine but a bit bland. My husband felt the same way about his steak burrito. They also forgot to add a side of sour cream for me. Overall, kind of mediocre Mexican.

We would recommend this bright airy relaxed venue as a great alternative to the more popular places in the French Quarter. It’s an easy trolley bus ride (No 48 I think) from downtown And if you go out here it’s a great idea to walk on to the City Park and it’s fantastic sculpture garden ( it’s free!).We enjoyed two of the Mexican breakfasts Which really set us up for the day. Service was a little slow but we were on a tight schedule so maybe that affected our perception - anyway next time we would schedule more time just to enjoy the atmosphere and sunlight streaming in.

Owner Joanne is a treasure and her restaurant is to die for. Foie gras c'est magnifique, peartinis delicious, veal medalions in a sumptuous sauce, duck with a garlic/port sauce...yum. Our waiter Gabriel was fabulous. Away from the hubub it's worth the trip as Mr. Deniro and Mr. Bezos have found it too.
