Things to do in Matanzas
Mar 19Around Plaza Libertad are many interesting shops and museums. There is the Triolet Pharmacy, a frozen-in-time pharmacy with all the original equipment, apothecary bottles, and handsome mahogany furniture with French-made glass windows and panes. A quality, hand-manufactured book and printing shop is also here--Vigia Publishing Collective. Each document is a work of art. Then there is the beautifully preserved Hotel Velasco and its Restaurant Libertad. Set next to the lobby, it certainly must have been at one time the best eating place in Mantanzas with patrons coming into town from miles around. The best of materials must have been found and imported to build the hotel and resto. Our set lunch was very good. We had fish. Usually the fish is mahimahi, which is frozen from Vietnam, but this fish tasted like a fishwater whitefish--possibly fresh. The meal ended with an ice cream dessert followed by a cup of flavorful coffee. I am impressed by the coffee ordered in Cuba--do not get the cafe Americano, but do get the cafe expresso, perhaps con leche and Cuban sugar. Then you can retire to the sumptuous lobby and drink mojitos and smoke a Cuban cigar.
Miky the owner ,goes out of the way you make your stay at this restaurant /caffe very pleasant ,service?on the slow side ,food?one of the best around matanzas and varadero ,drinks?bartender and servers dont even know what they have at the bar ,in all a good restaurante i suggest you visit it.
Modern and beautiful restaurant in the center of Matanzas, Cuba. Cuban and international food, great bar with delicious drinks.
I love the Bar and Restaurant combination, the food was excellent and drinks as well. Great to go with family or with your partner. The mojito cubano: you must try it!
We stopped by for lunch as part of a tour and had our expectations blown away - especially as we are vegetarian which we explained in broken Spanish and English to the friendly waiter. The buffet of bright fresh salads and fruits outshone the chain hotel buffets by a mile and complemented the fried rice (with either beef or fish) they served as a main course. The dining room is simple, with fans rather than AC and this simple but cared for meal remains a highlight of our trip.

We came here one afternoon for a break from heat, and it was like entering a small, empty nightclub - dark with neon lighting and loud music! The AC was strong, as we sat down we were offered complimentary cold towels, dried fruit and a refreshing drink. The service was good, polite and attentive. There's a very extensive cocktail list - the ones we had were pretty good but expensive at CUC4-5 each. They also serve light snacks but we didn't try them. There's a bathroom for customers.Dear costumer.I would like to thank you on behalf Bistro Kuba Bar-Café staff for your comment. We are very carefully studying all proposals to take all necessary.Once again, thanks for your invaluable review on Bistro Kuba Bar-Café and for recommending us to friends and family. We all look forward to welcoming you once again.Sincerely,The Public Relations & Management TeamPequeños Suarez

I had several meals at this restaurant, which I really like. I preferred to eat outside, but if you don't mind freezing you can sit inside as well. Food is comida criolla, but more refined and the pina colada is delicious. On weekends they often have a singer and entertainment, but it's not a dancing place.

The food was excellent and portions much larger than expected based on menu prices. Despite having a lunch reservation the wait staff seemed overwhelmed by the large group (16 people) - tables not set up when we arrived, need to share menus. Would definitely return if in Matanzas but not in a large group.

Restaurant of Cuban and International Food on the shores of the beautiful Bay of Matanzas
Visited this reataurant during our stay in Varadero and Matanzas. Very nice staff, friendly and sensitive to orders. Tried the local starters - seviche and seafood salad. For main course took seafood an paella. Tasty fresh juices and desserts. Would recommend for visiting.

My girlfriends and I stayed in a casa in Matanzas and were told by many Cubans to go visit Bukan. We were blessed to have the opportunity to stay in Matanzas for 20 days. On our last night we decided to finally make our way to the cutest little restaurante that was on the top floor of a house. We walk up and the lovely Migeul said that he will call his manager and try to fit us in as it was typically a reservation only type place. He fit us in right away and we walk up a sit of stairs to the most beautiful and modern restaurant I've seen in a while. All of the staff, especially Samuel!, was beyond attentive and so nice! We were the only non Cubans in the place and there wasnt a lot of English speaking people but as I know some spanish I was able to find out what the favorite dishes were and we had the most delicious meal! I would 100% recommend this place!
