A wonderful bistro right in the middle of Trubschachen. They have a really interesting and diverse drink selection with lovely local beers, great wines, cocktails, and plenty of non-alcoholic beverages for all tastes (and, it must be mentioned, really beautiful glasswear). Some snacks are offered, but it is mostly a great place to stop for a drink. They are even open on Sunday and non-stop throughout the week (which is more than can be said for many other establishments in the region). And of course, don't miss their shop which is full of an incredible (and hand-picked) selection of wines, spirits, beer, pasta, coffee, sweets, teas, herbs and spices, local produce, cheeses and meats, I'm sure I've missed something... ooo, yes, fresh Zopf on Sundays! The family who owns it are just the friendliest and it is always such a pleasure to drop in—glad we live nearby!

If you like the unexpexted, history ladden, panoramic view, very friendly service and local crowds, this is definitely a place to visit, and especially enjoy a late summer afternoon and sunset over a nice simple dinner (the latter not necessarily the motivation for the visit).

The Restaurant Ochsen, located in the well-known town of Lützelflüh, near Bern, is always worth a visit. We enjoyed the seasonal Rehpfeffer (Roe deer). Looking at the decorations and exhibitions in the hallways, I was impressed with their own in-house history but also with their little exhibition of the Anabaptist’s 2007 Year, including some pictures of North American Amish history. The Rev. Jeremias Gotthelf, who wrote many a book with local stories, used to visit here. The building itself is one of the older Restaurants in the Emmental. Looking around you will quickly notice the old architecture, the wood paneling with historical exhibits.Last but not least, the two meals we enjoyed were perfectly done. The game with the new wine (Suser) contributed to our pleasure. The roe deer pepper version was served with spaetzli, plums, red cabbage, champions, Brussel sprouts, cranberry, Maroni, onions and cranberries. This is a typical local meal during hunting seasons.
