Kunming is the capital and largest city of Yunnan province in southwest China. Known as Yunnan-Fu until the 1920s, today it is a prefecture-level city and the political, economic, communications and cultural centre of the province as well as the seat of the provincial government. Kunming is also called the Spring city due to its weather. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's large businesses are in Kunming. It was important during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road. Located in the middle of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,900 metres (6,234 feet) above sea level and at a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer. Kunming has as of 2014 a population of 6,626,000 with an urban population of 4,575,000, and is located at the northern edge of the large Lake Dian, surrounded by temples and lake-and-limestone hill landscapes.

Ozzie's is a most welcomed addition to Kunming's foreign food beat, located inside the cosmopolitan Banzhuhou Street area. The burgers are as close as one can get to a 'Greasy Joe's' style-burger at a reasonable price. The ingredients match up, and, as a fellow strayan abroad, the smells and flavours of the tucker brings back beaut memories from home. The atmosphere is laid-back, friendly and has an outside balcony. A bonza spot for those who want to blow the froth off a few coldies (Coopers on the menu) or just enjoy a cheeky durry. The staff are heaps friendly and the joint offers background tunes from some of the 'Ming's finest DJs, such as funk/soul DJ, DJ DSK. A slice of home away from home and I'll be heading back for sure. Thanks to Al, Charles, Lemon and the waitresses for their hospitality.
KWEE ZEEN 49/F, an international restaurant with 360° views over the city. This Parisian Farmers Market - Kunming Fresh Produce Market inspired venue serves contemporary buffets and à la carte menu with truly international flavours and a focus on Chinese
I went yesterday for their Sunday brunch. Met the friendly executive chef, a Mr. Mohammed. They offer a large selection of cuisines, from sashimi and other cold seafood dishes to Cantonese dim sum and roast duck. Many international selections as well as local Chinese specialties. Carving station offered roast beef and roast pork. Many vegetable dishes were prepared ahead. I had some freshly-made tomato soup. Near the desert section was a selection of freshly-squeezed juices to provide a healthy option while dining. This restaurant is located on the 49th floor of the Sofitel, which opened last year. It's a luxury lodging establishment and this is a luxury restaurant. Quite a few local families were there yesterday to enjoy this Sunday brunch. If one pays at the door, it's pretty expensive at 268 Yuan. If one books ahead through a discount dining app on one's phone (ç¾å¢ Mei Tuan) the price drops to 168 Yuan per person, which is more reasonable. Should mention that an Italian red wine was provided at the table free of extra cost (included in the basic price.) They also had a special cheese room stocked with prime imported cheeses and sausages. Service was professional. The only criticism I would have is that they probably offered too many selections for the amount of traffic. This allowed some dishes to get cool. I think a smaller selection would have allowed a more rapid turnover of items; it would have meant that more dishes were freshly cooked. This was my first time, but I will return with friends. Would be appropriate either for families or business associates.

Lost Garden Restaurant has been moved to Humdinger nearby. After the opening of our new brewpub restaurant a year ago, and more recently, a complete renovation and redesign of the common area of Lost Garden, the restaurant part of Lost Garden has been red
Convenient location in a calm laneway: you can easily walk to the birds market, the park etc Very nice and helpful staff despite all the (scary) disclaimers about what you can and canât do in the guesthouse; what they can/canât help you with and how much they charge for it. The room I was in (downstairs) had a lovely shower and nice decoration touch with wooden furniture and copper sink. But it is VERY dark as there is only 2 tiny windows and as itâs downstairs, sun doesnât get there. Slightly expensive for what it is when travelling solo.

In the heart of Kunming, Humdinger Microbrewpub serves up wood-fired fusion cuisine, craft beer and the best in local live music.
Humdinger is a real find in Kunming although billed mainly as brew pub its has excellent food. This brilliant micro-brewery has an excellent selection of beers ( I had the German Pilsner) and an acceptable selection of wines. The food though was really stunning under the new chef Steven. Great pizzas, steaks and burgers to die for and snacks ....so we had the mushroom pizza and I had the fried beef. The pizza was excellent and so was the beef.Service was friendly and efficient. The clientele was mainly local, playing cards and games, listening to the excellent music and some a little to worse for ware. This is a great place to hang out, to enjoy food and excellent value for money brilliant..

The food ( all we ordered) was simply great. Looking at the wine carte it is surprisingly âcheapâ ( for what it is)(we had a louis jadot / chardonnay for less than 400 rmb). At the end come the service : extremely difficult but this is most probably due to language. Our chinese is close to zero while the only English speaker staff has a terrible english ( not able to tell us what is in the seafood platter and consequently us not being able to order it ...). I guess (hope) for Chinese clients it is easier. Still very helpful ( trying their best). They called us a taxi at the end which was very helpful.

Salvador's Coffee House aims to provide a diverse selection of international cuisines made from fresh and healthy ingredients and is well known for homemade ice cream and local organic coffees.
We had 2 visits here as the atmosphere looked great. The first meal was lovely, but the second time I had the pepperoni pizza. And I can't imagine anyone thinking this slice of bread with warm tough meat with cheese on resembles anything like pizza. And im still recovering the after effects now.
Yunnan, China Food Guide: 10 Chinese food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Kunming
Had breakfast there because it was included in the package. The restaurant was under staff that guests would have to wait for sometime until the only receptionist was available to arrange seating. Saw some guests just ignored the reception counter and walked straight in to get seats for themselves! Coffee/tea not served until you make repetitive requests, and the coffee was nothing to write home about. Food dishes were many but actually you didn't have too many choices because it was local Chinese centric, although western food lovers would still have the usual plates of salad, cold cuts, bacon and eggs, breads etc. I ordered an omelet with shredded bacon and tomato but received one cooked with onion, cheese, and mushroom! No language barrier here because I speak almost native mandarin. Staff there wore poker face probably due to over work. Smile on the face had been a scarce commodity with their staff in the hotel. You get good-valued local food here but not pleasant dining experience.
Located on level-2 with total sitting capacity of 126, comes with 2 private dining rooms. Offering buffet breakfast, lunch & dinner, alternatively guests can order from a-la-carte menu.
This where they serve breakfast. The ambiance is good. The service is also good. The choice of breakfast menu is good with Chinese and western.

Wildfire features classic steak and other international favourites prepared to absolute perfection. The restaurant further offers selection of fine wines from around the world.
This restaurant should be much higher on the list in Kunming. My Daughter and I shared an Angus fillet which was fantastically cooked. My wife had a couple of starters, ribs in a spicy sauce and then macaroni cheese (with some truffle) both of which were great, so all in all, thoroughly satisfied. A day lateralso had a beautiful Caesar salad as a a quick bite. Cynthia and Lisa served us extremely well. Thank you.
