What a disappointment. Have had lunch here a few years ago and it was really nice, wish I could say the same about tonight's disaster. Service and welcome was good, even the time we had to wit for our dinner was ok but the food was terrible. I must say that before I start I have had over twenty years in the Hotel & Catering trade and I am a senior reviewer on trip advisor and never like leaving a negative review unless I feel it necessary. Where to start I ordered the Homemade Steak & Guinness pie, the pie filling was mainly gravy with lots of peas, diced carrots and about five half inch pieces of over cooked beef which was hard to chew and served in what only can be described as a packet gravy with Guinness added which had not been cooked out properly and made it very bitter, plus an extra huge pile of peas as one of the vegetables given to accompany. My husband & son had the Pizzas which were soggy in the middle and burnt underneath my son said he couldn't decide whether he was eating pasta or pizza and the cheese was not at all nice, the grand finale was a dried up piece of chocolate fudge cake, even the icing was dark brown and you could tell it had sat around plus the portion size was at least half what you would normally get. Needless to say we won't be returning, a waist of £55 of our hard earnt money!

I pen this review amidst the synthetically exotic decor of Mu Mu Restaurant in central Maidstone. The interior recalls scenes of the demi-monde portrayed by the impressionists. Luxuriant drapery and garish colours create an aesthetic feast for the eye. Voluptuous sculpted figures (caryatids) look down from their perches with beguiling insouciance. They have seen it all and are no longer fazed by the unleashing of human passions. One can imagine the scintillating atmosphere in the twlight hours with the wine flowing and inhibitions thrown to the wind.On the culinary side the service is friendly and efficient. The dishes arrive stylishly presented on the plate. The breakfast and brunch menus seem at odds with an ambience designed to stimulate a sensuous response. I realise too late that a fishcake and small glass of Sauvignon Blanc are unlikely to reawaken my slumbering urges. I am hopeful that the banoffee pie will work wonders. The rest is a matter of personal taste. The restaurant is currently decked out for Hallowe'en, an event of dubious propriety. Black is 'a la mode'. If contrived scarifyring is your thing, Mu Mu is suitably prepared. (Goths and Harry Potter fans take note). The masonry is strewn with faux cobwebs and I espy a giant spider made of pipe cleaners. The meal is accompanied by a soundtrack of eerie cries and echoing chambers reminiscent of my digestive system on a bad day. I shudder momentarily....but this may be due to a draught as I am sitting near the entrance. I would like to point out that this establishment hardly needs these additional fripperies to qualify as an intriguing venue. My dining experience is considerably enhanced by the presence of a charismatic Mediterranean waitress. Her restrained appearance contrasts with the ghoulish creatures who pass through the restaurant at intervals dressed in various shades of black, their faces plastered with grotesque make-up. A parade of demure zombies. Isn't it amazing what commerce demands of its handmaidens?Mu Mu is a tantalizing extravaganza not to be missed, though somewhat wasted on dreary Maidstone. I look forward to my next visit with breathless anticipation.
Where to eat Bar food in Headcorn: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Supposedly all you can eat Carvery, we were the only ones in the restaurant served with meat, helped ourselves to potatoes and Yorkshire pudding was told we would get vegetables on the table nothing arrived no member of staff in the restaurant eventually a member of the bar staff came around we asked where our vegetables were and she thought the chef had brought them out too late then we had almost finished our meat and potatoes. The waitress took our plates away and said it was eat as much as you like I cant see this was the case as there was no staff in the restaurant to serve us, it was too late as the waitress had already taken our plates. Thought this was a good pub to eat would certainly not go back there bad experience not once did the landlord or landlady come round to apologise they left it to the female bar staff
