Undoubtedly the best place in town and worth a trip to enjoy the terrace on a lovely evening. I would dine here again just for the experience.Pros: very good quality food, tasty; relaxed pace of service; lovely surroundings and marvelous to overlook the river; quiet and elegant; they allow dogs on the terrace; flexible (we were able to have wine pairings with some but not all of the "surprise" menu dishes to accomodate our need to drive home). Beautiful live piano music all evening.Cons:despite reserving long in advance for the terrace they tried to put us inside and we had to "stand firm" - that's not cool. They seem to favour hotel guests (which we were not). Service was OK but a bit quirky, lots of different people, no clear who was in charge. Timing of wine service relative to dishes was off. Austria allows smoking on patios (BOO!), but it seems unreasonable to also let employees (piano player) smoke in the guest space. Food is not "experimental" which was fine for us but may matter to some.Dear cantravnut,Thank you very much for your constructive review. We will work on a better Team work in the Service, that your next visit will get an unforgettable one!We wish you all the best,Yours,Family Thiery

Outdoor and indoor seating is available here but even with all of the tables, it was popular. We were lucky to get a seat though not a very comfortable one right in the front at a hightop table. All the comfy seating was taken. 2STEIN served a wide variety of dishes of which we chose the jalapeno burger and the pulled pork sandwich and both included fries. We should have split one of those as it was a huge amount of food. Service was a bit slow and we were ignored when we tried to pay our bill - no one would look our way, so my husband finally got up and went to the front desk area - actually just three or four steps away. We still had a good meal and a nice time despite the slightly off service.

The restaurant is next to the Steiner Tor, one of architectural landmarks, and the beginning of the shopping street in Krems. There is plenty of scenic outdoors seating, and there is always plenty of clientele. However, the food was very average by local standards - Kaiserschmaren desert particularly so. Apricot dumplings (a must in the area) were definitely at the bottom of our comparative testing results! If you decide to visit, perhaps it's best to just have a beer with some snacks and go for a meal elsewhere...

The restaurant is in the ground floor of a university building not obvious but well worth seeking out. Ambience is modern relaxed friendly. Waiting staff are university students and clearly enjoy their jobs. Menu is short - in good way A small selection of tempting things. The basics are done beautifully - excellent humus dressed with a really good olive oil, delicious warm bread. I had ox cheek which was perfectly soft with a rich sauce and a delicious salad of shaved carrots. My wife had char with perfectly cooked potatoes. For dessert a cold chocolate mousse on top of warm brownie base, one of the best chocolate desserts I've tasted. I tried a local white and red, both very good. And the whole meal outstanding value. Seek this place out you won't be disappointed !
