My family and I visited Café Berlin on an October Saturday evening, after securing a reservation on-line. We arrived to a partially-filled restaurant, not as busy as I would have expected, looking forward to a memorable German dinner.Overall, the experience was good, not great. We ordered beers, wine, a pretzel appetizer, and then individual entrees, finally settling on desserts to split between us.What was good?⢠Ambiance â laid-back, small restaurant with seating inside and outside. It was nice to dine in a restaurant where we could actually hear each other and have a conversation without shouting.⢠The pretzel appetizer â yum!⢠The desserts. What we did not enjoy?⢠Our waiter seemed completely untrained on how to pace a meal. He visited our table three times while we were looking over the menu, each time seeming confused that we were not ready to order. When we did order drinks, it took a long time for them to come. Service was OK, but not professional â more like service in a Jersey diner.⢠Misrepresented wine on the menu â we ordered a bottle of reisling and on the menu, it referenced that it was a one liter bottle. When it arrived, it was a 750 ml bottle and when I pointed that out to the waiter, he made no effort to check or apologize.⢠Schweinekrustenbraten Café Berlin Art â a signature entrée during Oktoberfest, but the pork was way, way overcooked â dry, tasteless, tough, not appealing at all.Perhaps we hit on an off-night there, which is unfortunate since it was my first time there. Not sure if weâll go backâ¦

My friend Beth and I went to Belga after a fashion show for DC fashion week. I had been to this restaurant twice before and it was really good so I was excited to try it again. Everything was great: the food, service, the atmosphere, the hot food was hot, the cold food was cold, the Bordeaux was delicious, & our food was perfectly prepared. I like a cozy restaurant very muchHi Christina, thank you for the review! Glad everything went well, we aim to please. Hope to see you back again soon, cheers!

We had a party of 7 for a celebration dinner. Food was delicious. Dishes were creative and artfully plated. Several in our party were "meat eaters" and they enjoyed the vegan food too. Service was good. Only complaint is that you should offer serving utensils when dishes are ordered to be shared. We indicated that we were going to share everything when we placed our order. As a result of no serving spoons and using personal forks to move portion onto our plates, we also shared sickness. I've suffered from a long lasting cold and cough as a result of sharing small plates. How difficult is it to offer your guests a serving spoon, especially when it is a large party and not a romantic couple.

Everything was freshly made and delicious. I had Cuban pananni sandwich with side salad. My daughter had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens. My son had the shrimp and chicken chorizo pasta. All great. Atmosphere was fun.

Central Michel Richard Restaurant in Washington DC. James Beard Award , Best New Restaurant. French & American Bistro
My #1 restaurant in DC was Michel Richardâs Citronelle, which was a French influenced American restaurant located in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Michel opened Central years ago as a more affordable, more casual experience. Michel Richard past away and Citronelle closed, but, Central remained open. The last time I enjoyed dinner here was many years ago when David Deshaies was the chef. I was recently here on business staying at the nearby Grand Hyatt hotel. I decided to return here again with my party of two with my 6pm dinner reservation, because Central is only a 7 minute walk from my hotel. We were seated promptly upon our arrival at a nice table for two overlooking the chefâs kitchen area. As you can see from my pics, I started with my not so exciting Fig Matai for $15 with Duquesne Rhum Agricole, Hamilton 151, Orange Curacao, Orgeat, Lime and roasted fig. I enjoyed the Hamilton 151. I noticed that fig is also becoming a popular cocktail ingredient. My cocktail glass vessel was not very appealing. We both decided to enjoy the pre-Theater 3-course fixed dinner for $39.50. We both decided to order the huge Caesar salad and shrimp risotto, which we both enjoyed for our first and second course. I enjoyed my creme brule for dessert. We also enjoyed a bottle of 330 Bordeaux (Chateau Carignan 2014) red wine for $46. My total bill was $172 exclusive of gratuities. Jean Carlo accommodated our table nicely. I will continue to return here. We later learned that Chef David Deshaies opened his own new restaurant near the convention center called the âUnconventional Dinnerâ, which I quickly booked dinner reservations for tomorrow evening again at 6pm. Watch for my next review of David Deshaiesâ âUnconventional Dinerâ. More to come!
