Saw a new restaurant on Maple Ave. and wanted to give it a try -- entered, and the place felt dark -- not sure who the prior tenant was, but the down-lighting make it feel dark and wonder if it was open. The place was crowded -- but it felt a little chaotic -- order at the counter, and then wait to hear your number called ... even though the orders weren't coming out of the kitchen in a regular sequence. Many of the menu items were new to me, so I took a shot and ordered Paneer Dosa -- a crispy crepe containing a neon yellow shredded cheese and peas concoction. It was delicious, and once I committed to eating it with my hands, everything was fine. They also offered a lot of small side dishes and desserts - no time to try them this time, but I will try them on my next visit. One odd thing: The seemed put out that I was using a credit card to pay for my "less than $10" meal, apparently violating their policy. They accepted my charge, because I had no other option, but I generally don't appreciate the practice of requiring a minimum purchase to accept a credit card. Wonder of their CC processor is aware of this?

Washington Post review on July 25th.
Located in a small strip mall, Turmeric Indian Dining caught our eye for dinner last Friday evening. They have a bar and we quickly found wines that appealed to each of us. Their menu has a great selection and we started with appetizers of vegetable samosa and garlic naan. The waitress was helpful in narrowing down entree choices for me and I went with her suggestion of Paneer Saag (mild sauce featuring spinach with paneer). My friend ordered the Lamb Korma (mild creamy sauce featuring almonds and cashews with lamb). Both dishes were wonderfully tasty. Service was friendly and helpful. Our food was lovely and tables surrounding us were all pleased with their meals. This was a great find for us, as we are not from the area. I would definitely return to sample other dishes.
This restaurant discriminates against vegetarians. Their lunch buffet is entirely geared towards meat eaters with two meat/non-veg dishes while the vegetarians are told that if they want a vegetarian protein they must buy it separately thereby paying twice for the same meal!! Despite bringing this to the notice of the manager, this practice is still continued. In fact when I tried to speak to manager to request a dish of vegetarian protein (paneer) be prepared for our table instead of the chicken dishes on the buffet which none of us would have touched, he told me that I should just eat the veggies and carbs or pat twice for my meal!! I will never step into this establishment again and will make it a point to mention this to everyone I know.
