Things to do in Tracy

We were on the road and heading back to northern California, and late afternoon traffic on Highway 205 suddenly became unendurable so we considered that this was the perfect time to stop and have dinner. We always avoid chain restaurants and other over-familiar shrines of mediocrity and eventually wandered to a very unprepossessing strip mall, and there off to the left in the corner was this tiny little Indian restaurant, Dhaba. What a score! It is a small (6, 7 tables?) little storefront in a strip mall, and delightfully unfancy. There must be a substantial Indian community in Tracy because throughout our entire stop we were the only non-Indians there, and this included the staff. What better recommendation could you ask for in an Indian restaurant? The service was friendly, prompt, and the food was great. We sampled a biryani, mattar paneer, pilau rice and a tandoori chicken platter, plus a selection of naan breads, and found it all to be very tasty, though the naan was perhaps a bit underdone and somewhat bland; still, it made a fine scoop for the biryani which was fragrant and just pungent enough. All in all it was a fun stop, we ate very well and had enough left over for a decent leftovers meal the next day. We'll definitely look this place up again, the next time we're driving through Tracy.
