Santiniketan (Santiniketôn) is a small town near Bolpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, India, approximately 180 km north of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta). The food at Bonolakshmi is fresh and healthy , but one has to book in advance. That is the main problem. But a pure Bengali thali here with options of vegetarian, egg, fish, chicken and mutton meals is something that really gives a taste of Bengal. There are items like a variety of fish and dessert that can be ordered outside the thali. The place tends to get too crowded during weekends, and one has to wait for a table. The seating arrangement is very rudimentary as the main focus is on the food. Bonolakshmi also has a sale counter for fresh ghee, honey, pickles and handicrafts.

The location is great and the food is equally good.Go for the simple local fare. That is rice, lentils, local fish, some chutney and of course some heavenly dessert.

Tagore's Shantiniketan is becoming modern. This cafe, infact all the cafés suddenly sprouted prove this point. This café is good. Very cheap price. Since the targeted crowd is the pupil from the varsity, the price tags had to be pocket friendly. I liked the open air atmosphere. This café is spread across quite a large area and can accommodate many groups. Service is very slow. But the footfalls are pretty high too. So, the service is bound to be slow. Food quality and quantity both are very good compared to the price.

Situated opposite to Santiniketan Tourist lodge this is one of the best restaurants in Bolpur and Santiniketan region. Spectacular interior matches with mouth watering Indian, Chinese and Continental food. I prefer Chinese delicacy, especially crispy chicken as starter and noodles with garlic lemon chicken platter. Quantity is enough and take away packs are good with nominal extra cost. Only two small problems this restaurant has, 1) They take much time to serve food when seats are almost full and 2) Seats other than big sofas are not much comfortable.

During our recent visit to Shantiniketan, we went there for Lunch.First day We ordered ---Chiken curry (tasted like soup),Rice,Alu-Potoler sabji,Prawn Malaikari,Chatni and Lassi.Next day: Rice, Dal ,Katla Macher curry,Prawn curry ,Polao and Mutton Kosha.I like only -Prawn Malaikari and Mutton Kosha. Polao is horrible. The prices were reasonable and the servings were also adequate. Food is ok. Nothing extraordinary.Nice ambience with both AC and non-AC options.Enough parking space outside and there is handicraft showroom next door.
