The quiet capital of Malawi, Lilongwe is divided into New and Old Towns. The Old Town is where to go for bustling stores, markets, cafes, hotels, and restaurants. The New Town houses embassies, international aid organizations, and corporate headquarters. A large expat population has made Lilongwe a very Western city, and a perfect stopping point for tired travelers to relax and pick up some essentials for their trip to the country’s wildlife reserves or to the beaches of Lake Malawi.
Things to do in Lilongwe
When you ask people in Lilongwe you hear that this is the best Indian restaurant in town. It is somewhat tucked away in a residential area, as part of a city lodge of sorts (the Country Lodge - not to mistake for the Kumbali Country Lodge where Madonna and Jeff Sachs stay when they are in town. It isn't quite the same. . . Well the restaurant - or should I say the food - is worth coming for, however. While the interior of the restaurant is a bit like a canteen (a common fallacy with Lilongwe restaurants I get the impression) the food is great. Good Indian chow without artificial colours, the full whack of spices, and prompt and friendly service. Definitely coming back. Although, as usual, I lost the battle of getting the food hot (spicy) - I just don't look like I eat hot food. But the birds eye chili concoction they have on the table sorts out that need very nicely. . .

Have had pizza twice within a week -- took about 20 mins for food to be delivered to table. Owner was accommodating. Pizza was 5000MWK, open 7 days a week, chill vibe with outdoor bar area (where the pizza oven is). Not for a fancy dinner, but good if you're craving some 'za.

As temporary residents in Lilongwe, we visit here regularly, and have never ever been disappointed. The hosts are going out of their way to make you feel at home, and the food is simply superb. Recently had masala crayfish, what an experience. And their prawns are simply to die for! Above all, the most child friendly restaurant in Malawi! See attached pic of my 4year old enjoying their signature chicken lollipops!Regards,Marius & Betsie

Authentic Indian Restaurant, offering the best flavors of Indian cuisine prepared from the choicest spices, crafted to perfection by our master chefs and served with loved.
I discovered Chennai Spice only one weekend after it opened, and was delighted to find such an authentic and delicious South Indian restaurant so close to my hope. Since then, I've brought friends and colleagues and sampled many of their vegetarian dishes, all of which have been excellent. (I have not tried any of the Chinese-influenced dishes commented on by another reviewer.) I've particularly enjoyed their mushroom tikka, veg kholapuri, spicy tomato lentil soup, and milagu rasam. The breads and dosa are all freshly made to order. On the weekends, order the traditional Tamil lunch -- an wonderful assortment of dishes. The owners -- Chikkalingam, his wife (whose name I haven't yet learned), and their daughter Rukmani, are very friendly and welcoming.Yes, it's pricy, as are all higher end restaurants in Lilongwe, but the quality and service make it a worthwhile treat.

this resturand is part of the crossroads hotel. specializing in indian cuisine. you are always made welcome by the manager and food is freshly prepared. their naans are fresh and crispy. their butter chicken is very nice . sometimes service is slow if they have other functions going on but generally its okay. you can relax in a reasonably quite atmosphere and enjoy your meal. try their sizzlers also nice. you have to specify the level of heat in your food otherwise they are a tad heavy .

Very good Indian dishes. From start to end. Tasty and great quality food. You canât go wrong with Blue Ginger. Only snag which is prevalent in most places in Lilongwe is that the waiters forget about you. But on the basis of the food a definite must.
