Reviews on Indian food in Hsipaw, Shan State, Myanmar. Hsipaw (Burmese: သီပေါ; Shan: သီႇပေႃႉ; also known as Thibaw), is the principal town of Hsipaw Township in Shan State, Myanmar on the banks of the Duthawadi River. It is 200 km (124 mi) north-east of Mandalay.
Things to do in Hsipaw
The food here is traditional Burmese curry and veg with rice. A veggie set is 1500 per person but the meat curries are a bit more expensive. She wasnât very clear on all the prices because at the beginning she said that a veggie set was 2000 so Iâm not sure if she was overcharging us. In Mandalay we paid only 1200 per person including meat and unlimited veggie refills. The food is really really good and clean here though, we didnât get ill once. The flavours and variety of the the vegetarian dishes were so delicious. We came back about 4 times to eat here.
Chapati was very oily and came with a small serving of curry. Elsewhere in Burma I pay 250 kyats for a chapati but here they charged me 500 for one. We ordered 4 chapatis and when we went to pay she asked for 1000 kyats and then realised her mistake and quickly changed it 2000 kyats. Hsipaw in general feels like a close knit team who all seem to be working together to charge their tourists double the price. Unfortunately the touristy areas in Burma are becoming just as money greedy as the rest of south east Asia.We had a few really nice meals at Akaung Kyaik where a veggie set is only 1500 per person and you get a lot of food. Mrs. Popcorn was also really nice with normal burmese prices.
