We were recommended by our hotel to come to this restaurant to try out the famous Hoto in Kawaguchiko. Four of us tried different types of Hoto and yes, it was really delicious. Don't forget to try their spicy sauce which blends well with the Hoto. The ambience of the restaurant was very nice with Japanese style dining. The service from the staff was very good too.

While living in Japan I have seen many beautiful restaurants. But none compared to this treasure at Lake Yamanaka. While visiting during a dog show, my Japanese friends introduced me to Paper Moon. It was magical. The tea set was beautiful, the desserts were delicious. The atmosphere took my breath away. The service was fast and friendly. I loved their shop where I could take home a memento to remember Paper Moon forever.

We choose here as a splurge, we'd been cutting costs by eating at convenience stores. From the moment we sat down it was very clear there was not enough staff and they were running around like headless chickens from table to table.
We ordered a starter, a mains each and a bottle of wine. After a while we were informed the starter was not available. By the time we were informed of this my pizza had arrived. My partner changed his starter to then be told it was also not available. We ordered wine which was dumped on the table in front of us, already opened. The wine tasted very vinegary and watery and not good, so we tried to get a new bottle. The management were not too keen about this. Once I had finished my meal and my partner was halfway through his we were told that the wine should be fine and maybe it just tastes different to what we were used to. We explained we had been to Italy and drunk lots of wine from there, plus we drink lots of Chianti at home. We finally managed to get it taken off the bill.
My partner had pasta with garlic. When he had nearly finished it there was a taste of fish and yet there was no mention of this on the menu. The liquid at the bottom was fishy, very strange.
The menus are oversized and difficult to consult. They are about 3ft long! Literally! They were the size of the table, crazy.
A disappointing meal indeed. I am sure if they had more front-of-house staff then the service would run much better. Also, please note that the bread offered costs ¥310 - it is not complimentary.

This restaurant provided us with the most wonderful service and food. So much so we returned the next night, despite our drive for variety!

Lake Yamanaka near Fuji has a number of large restaurants on the North-Western lake side.
We visited Lake Yamanaka Hōtō Restaurant twice during our stay at local Zero Project Guesthouse. The food was absolutely amazing on both occasions. We highly recommend a visit (or two!) to this restaurants r excellent Japanese cuisine served in a warm, cosy and friendly environment.
Our first visit was during a busy lunch time service on Sunday afternoon -

It was cold day, I enjoyed hot spring (Onsen) in this facility. It was clean and beautiful. It provides a range of warm water to enjoy. Jacuzzi was great! After enjoying the onsen, I had nice sova lunch at the facility. It said that we can view Mt. Fuji while having bath, due to weather condition, I was unable.

This restaurant is in a fairy-tale like hobbit house that was designed by our waitress, the wife of a chef who specialized in the Valtellinese cuisine of northern Italy. Everything about our meals was as magical as the setting. The charm and feel of the restaurant's eccentric design and decor put us all in a good mood and the food was exquisite in presentation and taste. We could not have been more pleased with our service and the hospitality we received.

Stumbled on to this unique cafe by the roadside, at Yamanakako Lake, Fuji 5 Lakes area, Cafe drinks and food option were ordinary, but the outdoor ambience and unique hammocks everywhere was great. Definitely worth a visit if you in the area, nice spot to take some holiday snaps.
A great place to just LAZE!
