Our first visit to the old soda shop that has been around for over 20 years (I was told). Besides the outstanding sandwiches and ice cream treats, the have the old fashioned phosphates. And the surprise??? You pay one price for the drink, and you can try as many different flavors and you like, or just switch to ice tea as I did after enjoying a delicious chocolate phosphate. All very yummmmy stuff. Take a step back in time and enjoy!

Comfort food restaurant with a pie outlet.
We always plan a stop here to pick up several pies to take home. I have never been disappointed in the taste or quality of their pies!

El Carretón is a pleasant surprise. On US 27, near Aldi and Walmart, here is a piece of real Mexico. The decor is clean and bright, the staff are friendly, and the food is well-cooked and reasonably-priced. They have an extensive lunch menu with large portions.

Nothing more enjoyable than a summer eve, eating their sundae, visiting with locals, & feeling the nice breeze at the picnic table. There were people coming & going, and some "Sat a piece," to enjoy the "moment." The soft serve frozen treat was as good as I've had. The servers were very good, & cordial.

OK, so a couple of years ago, my wife and I and another couple decided that we would search out the best breaded tenderloin in about a 35 mile radius of Winchester. After eating MANY breaded tenderloins, we agreed that the one served in little ol' Bartonia was the very best. Now I must retract that assessment and both my wife and I are ready to proclaim the newest culinary treat to be served at the Referees Bar and Grill is the VERY BEST BREADED TENDERLOIN in our area!
Give it a try!

We REALLY like General Tzo Chicken! We have tried it in many restaurants as we have traveled about this country and in others. For a small, mom-n-pop restaurant in a small town in east central Indiana, we believe this is the place for the BEST tasting General Tzo Chicken! Right in the heart of Winchester, you will find it on the corner of Washington Ave. and Main Street. A nice, clean, and modern setting with seating for about 40 and CLEAN restrooms, too!
Their lunch-sized orders are abundant enough that my wife and I are able to split and with a side of shrimp egg roll each and their free hot tea, we have our fill! And the cost? With tip? UNDER $10.00!
This is a definite stop!

Recently visited pizza hit for lunch while on business in area. Has lunch buffet, pizza was hot and fresh and they kept well stocked and rotated. Salad bar had a nice selection of items. $7.25 for lunch with soft drink. Would recommend and will return.

Velia's has the most authentic food and the price is very reasonable. You cannot get this type of Mexican food elsewhere. I love the combination burrito. But then I have only had great food here.

This is a family run business which serves typical HOOSIER style foods: meat loaf, ham loaf, broasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, etc.
And BREAKFAST ALL DAY LONG!
Since I am a lover of breakfasts, I will most likely order the CHUCK, well, actually, only a half order of the CHUCK since the whole is so large!
They do a very nice liver and onions once in awhile.
There is always a line at noon on Sundays! And the crowd keeps coming back day after day.
It gets noisy but the food is worth it!
The waitresses really hustle and deserve substantial tips!
The broasted chicken is very tasty but a couple of times it has been over cooked.
If it is, they will take it back and make it right! That is HOOSIER PRIDE!

Great food and great service at unbelievably cheap prices. Not much in the way of craft beer but they do have a good beer selection, both draft and bottled.
On Saturday night we had pork chop dinners that were among the best we've had, and we spent less than ten bucks apiece. You can't beat that with a stick. The next day we returned for hamburgers, and they were cheaper than a Big Mac and twice as good.
If I lived anywhere near Winchester I'd eat there every day.
