We had not eaten here in a while, so we stopped for lunch. We ordered the grillburger and mushroom melt combos. The cashier took our orders and gave us a number tag, so they could bring it to our table. Nice touch.
Food: four stars (would be five if it ever looked like the menu-board photo.
Service: Three and a half.
Cleanliness: Three
Restrooms: Two (unflushed commode, trash on floor, overflowing trash bin)
Miscellaneous: Two ( Employees smoking outside and visiting in cars; Some coolers unstocked.)
Best feature: It is located next to the recreation center, so you can eat and then work off the calories (sure!) or work out until you're hungry, then eat.

TripAdvisor says "There are no restaurants in Isom." They also think I live in Louisville, which is 200 miles away. Isom has this Subway, a deli in the IGA, a restaurant in the Exxon Quik-Mart, Joe Pack's Chicken place, and Holcombs' Dairy Bar in beautiful downtown Isom.
We use this Subway for breakfast, lunch, dinner, group meetings and catering. How can you complain about a sandwich where you choose every item on it and watch it prepared in front of you. They offer monthly specials, so it's pretty easy to eat on a budget.
My only complaint is the coffee. They've switched to the single-serve, Keurig-style coffee maker, and it tastes bitter to me. I finally gave up on my last cup and poured half of it out.

Joe's Chicken is great American roadside find.
All they do is fried chicken - and it is the best!
Yes they do have limited seating - but it is outside under a picnic shade area.
Do not pass by an opportunity to stop here - you will not regret it. You may only regret not living nereby!

A Flavorful Play on Traditional American Comfort Food.
I had amazing lunch at the Heritage Kitchen with my summer institute classmates and our professor. I loved the atmosphere as it is very cozy and feels like home. The food is also delicious! I had a grilled chicken hoagie with a side salad. The ingredients were locally grown and fresh which made the food so tasty! The customer service was fast and super friendly. We also got to talk to the owners of the Heritage Kitchen, Daryl Royse and Brad Shepherd. They told us about their idea of opening the Heritage Kitchen and how they value locally grown fresh produce. Heritage Kitchen is a wonderful place to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner with you family and friends. If you happen to be in Whitesburg, you should definitely visit Heritage Kitchen!

We had a couple large groups convene here over the weekend. Clean, good service, although a little slow. Breakfast both times was good and reasonably priced. Gift shop available, nice décor. When asking the locals this is one of the best places for food and I agree based on my experience.

I've had good food here and I've had very good food here. It's standard dairy bar fare. Three small windows in the front, kitchen in the back. Today, I had a foot-long hot dog that was very tough, and even though I asked for "lots of ketchup" for their excellent crinkle-cut fries, I got three packs. Normally, the dogs are better, but if you want more ketchup, you need to give them a number, I guess.
The staff is friendly, and many of the customers are local. Their soft-serve ice cream is excellent, and they often have frozen yogurt. My favorite is the peanut butter yogurt.

We dined the first night after their soft opening, which was only done the night before. To put together such a feat may have seemed daunting but the staff pulled it off wonderfully. The food was very well prepared and well presented. The wait staff, despite having every table occupied, were still very attentive. Again, this was day one of an official "go live". I've been to many restaurants in much larger cities and not seen things done as well. We were in the company of many friends and everyone commented about how great their dinner was.
If you happen to be visiting Whitesburg, KY, nestled at the foot of Pine Mountain, do yourself a favor and stop by. You'll be glad you did!

Really Good Burgers. Really Good Steaks. Really Good Beer. Our farm-to-table burgers and steaks come from a local farm and are never frozen. Our fries are hand-cut and you can add one of our four house-crafted dry seasonings. Our steak prix-fix menu let's you enjoy filet mignon, porterhouse, or ribeye steak with an starter and dessert. We use wood-fired ceramic grills to add extra flavor! You can enjoy one of 16 premium imported or American craft beers on draft, or a glass of wine of one of the more than 20 wines on our list.
As a food enthusiast living in Eastern Kentucky, I so wanted the Thirsty Heifer to be a new "go to" for my friends and I-I can't say enough about how our evening there met and exceeded that aspiration! As someone with food allergies, the owner personally ensured that my (delicious) burger was made correctly, and went down to the wine cellar to get me a glass of red that you wouldn't typically find our part of the state. The fries are worth the trip in and of themselves, and the ambiance feels both upscale and totally relaxed. As you explore all the great new stuff in downtown Whitesburg, absolutely don't miss out on the Thirsty Heifer! I'm excited to make it my new weekend destination.

Since I work in Whitesburg, I was pleased to see a new restaurant open on Main Street. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and although I'm only in town during normal 9-5 work hours, I understand they have a variety of musical entertainment some evenings. You can now have a brewed beverage with your meal. (And they understand that a Reuben isn't a Reuben without a pickle spear. Do you hear me, Arby's?)

Rader's is a great casual spot for local dining in Irvine. Located directly beneath the Irvine bridge next to downtown, the restaurant actually floats when the river floods. Great burgers, hand-breaded chicken tenders, fried pickles and other "bar-style" food. Also, nice daily specials of country cookin' favorites like roast beef and fried chicken. Great atmosphere right on the river. Definitely worth a stop when you're in the area!
