We went to this place in a Sunday evening with the whole family and they confirmed that this place sells delicious and fresh fish & chips - a food they grow up eating in the U.K.
The batter was delicious golden and not soggy and the fish was flaky and fresh. We picked up the generous portion and crossed the street to sit by the bay looking and the clam sea and sun setting. Would recommend to anyone going to white rock!!

Jan's on the Beach: Open for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. "Seafood and more" menu, great patio view of the San Juan Islands. Our menu focuses on fresh local ingredients, and is made to order from scratch right in our open kitchen. You can reserve a table online via Opentable, or call us! Hours of Business on our Website!
Delicious, house made with fresh ingredients, you can really tell they food is made with love! Jan herself was cooking with a smile in the open kitchen. Service and food slightly slow but it was a busy day on the strip, so can’t fault them. The view of the ocean and Promenade front Seating allow for people watching and a relaxing ambiance. A bonus; they offer tons of gluten free options!

My wife and I are visiting from the UK. Following a recommendation we visited your restaurant this lunch time. We were not disappointed, the fish and chips were excellent but what made my visit special, and my day for that matter, was the excellent service from your waitress. I do not know her name but she was a young slim woman with a 'nose ring'. She was without doubt the most pleasant waitress I have ever been served by and I was so impressed by her sunny nature that I felt compelled to write to let you know what an asset she is to your business.

My wife and myself's 1st time. We had Hirame (Flounder) 12 pcs thin sliced Sashimi. It was fresh and out of this world, Fresh Seasonal Uni (Sea Urchan) which was delish & finally the Handsome Roll which was beyond excellent.
I took a couple of pictures of our take out.

Talk about history! Uli's has been a staple on the White Rock strip for 30+ years. Starting with Ulrich Blume, where he transformed his travels into the foundation of our eclectic Euro-inspired menu. Those same values have been apart of us over the years. And now with - his son - Tyson Blume running the show, we've evolved into seasonal euro inspired cooking. We take pride in our true farm to table values by sourcing out products through out British Columbia. Because of this our menu changes slightly every season, that way our customers get only the best and freshest ingredients. We don't just stop at our food. We have an extensive drink list with quirky beers, uncommon wines and pre-prohibition drinks. To top it all off, we love doing tasting events. Combining our love for food and... well... booze. Check us out often for beer and wine sampling perfectly paired with a four course meal. Look forward to seeing you here!
The 2 star is primarily for the state of the restaurant. I give the service 5 stars. Knowledgable, friendly and there at the right times. I give the food 4 stars. The Charcuterie plate was delicious, as was the crustini that came with it but...MoreThank you Helen, Thank you for your time in writing this lovely review. Your critical Cristian will be taken and used to improve ourselves. The park across the street will be done by this summer. Hopefully:)

It's amazing to read a review by someone who picked the smallest restaurant around in hopes of intimidating them to use their bathroom. This is a husband wife venture very attentive to clients. You can't push an owner and expect to be respected.
The food we had was delicious. Started with the fresh chanterelle mushrooms in a cognac sauce on a pastry cup followed by a rich French onion soup. Main course was a duck breast with two sauces on the side and a wonderfully tender and flavorful veal chop . Desert was a creme brûlée topped with a whiff of gran Marnier.
Very personable attentive service with a strong desire to make you feel that you can linger as long as you like.....we're thinking of going again just to work our way through the appetizers and beautiful Deserts. Short drive from Blaine, quicker than heading south to BELLINGHAM.

Onyx is a fresh and innovative twist on a classic Steakhouse. We are devoted to cuisine and wine and we show it off by providing an extensive Wine List and serving top cuts of meat that we dry-age ourselves, in-house. That said, we're not above having a little fun! Come in for a drink, an amazing meal or snacks, and fall in love with a room that instantly relaxes you. Between the diverse menu, the vibe of the room and the energy of our staff, we know that you'll feel comfortable in our hands.
Our second visit and it was a very good one. We wanted to tale advantage of the "Bite of White Rock" promotion and the meal choices were great. I found the shaved roast beef bruscetta was a very different and tasty appetizer and the lobster stuffed salmon was perfect - cooked just the way I requested. Loved the Maple Bacon Cheesecake - what an intriguing combination of flavours!
The service was very friendly - the manager took the time to chat with us a bit and that added a real personal touch that we truly appreciated. All in all a great date night dinner - and we'll be back!

The view and location is hard to compete with. However, the food is average and the menu very predictable. That is not a bad comment; just an honest one. If you're looking for a dependable, but not a fine dining experience within an interesting local, this is the place.
They also offer entertainment with live local bands which is also, great if that is what you're looking for.

Serving british style fish n chips by the waterfront. we serve Ling Cod (its the best Cod) and Halibut. We also have a great selection of other seafood, prawns . scallops and lobster tail, crab legs. for non-seafood fans we have chicken, beef and vege burger served on freshly baked buns.
We shared a 3 piece fish dinner that was priced at several dollars cheaper than neighbouring restaurants. It was delicious! The fish was lightly battered and tasty, the cole slaw had a delicate flavour that we identified as lime and the fries disappeared. We had a little table outside with lots of sun but an umbrella for shade. Service was prompt and friendly. We'll be back.
