Where to Eat in Washington: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 14, 2018 Carley Gatson

Washington is a town in and the county seat of Rappahannock County, Virginia, United States. The site of this town was surveyed by George Washington himself in July 1749. It was the first of what would be many American places to be named after the future first president. Its population was just 135 people at the 2010 census, down from 183 in the 2000 census. It is nicknamed Little Washington to avoid confusion because of its proximity to Washington, D.C., which lies only 70 miles (110 km) to the north east.

We were passing through the area. Looked like a cool place. And it is. Wife, and I each had a salad, Asked for chicken on our salad. Crap, we were each charged $8.00. For a very small amount of chicken. My fault I did not ask about the $$$$$. Other than that, I would stop in again, and recommend.

Nice country location in quirky tiny town. Seasonal menu, great wine selection, attaractive decor. The vegetarian ravioli and the mixed green salad were outstanding. The filet mignon with yummy mushroom sauce would have been excellent medium rare, as ordered, instead of medium well, as presented. Hard to fix that, so I didn't fuss..

We were so pleased with our dinner that we felt the need to have the chef sign our menu so that we could put it up on our wall at home with our other memorable dinners. The staff was extremely welcoming and efficient. The portions were substantial and the wine pairings were spot on. Every bite was an pleasant experience. We will be back. This time with friends.

This is THE spot for your special occasion dinner. The food and the service are both spectacular. I've dined all over the U.S. and in many, many cities around the world, and this is still one of my favorite places. Fortunately for me, it's right in my backyard. It's pricey by most restaurant standards, but you can expect a spectacular experience.

The food at Tula's was great -- and very reasonably priced. Maybe the best quesadillas I've ever had (and I've had a lot). The Chopped Salad was also a real winner. All the food was delicious. In addition to the great food, the owner and staff were VERY friendly and the service was great.

The Country Cafe

Reviewed By Lynda W - Washington, Virginia

Located directly across from one of the world's most famous restaurants, The Inn at Little Washington, the Country Café is its polar opposite. The tablecloths are vinyl, the menu limited and the food, well, not refined. That said, there are some days when I want food like grandma used to make--homemade cobblers, burgers, shakes and good soups. My husband and I can eat for about ten dollars--unless we splurge on their wonderful desserts.
