Forked River German Butcher

Reviewed By Suzymobile47 - Port Charlotte, Florida

We're visiting in South Jersey, to settle a family member's estate, and were cheered by discovering a gift certificate to The German Butcher Shop in his Christmas mail. The couple who gave it to him agreed that he would have wanted us to enjoy it as much as we did.

We headed off to Forked River on the eve of the east coast's first blizzard of the new year, and it was mobbed with people stocking up on wursts before the storm hit. Higher on the priority list, obviously, than shovels and ice melt.

Even though the place was slammed, the counter staff was friendly and efficient, helping us through our order. We got dinner to go, and fish and chips for lunch.

Would I recommend fish and chips from a butcher shop? I don't know about anywhere else, but these were the best chips and fried fish we've had in a long time! Coming up for dinner: a massive platter of wursts and pork chop, and a Reuben the size of my head. We won't go hungry tonight either!

Thank you, Barsch family!

This place started going down hill but since they switched back to the old menu it's reclaimed it's delicious bar food! Family friendly, but sometimes a little loud, I like going there when bands aren't playing or games aren't on tv, otherwise you won't be able to hear anyone

This bakery is conveniently located on Route 9 in Waretown, NJ, and if you can get there before it closes mid-afternoon (as most bakeries do), you could enjoy some decent choices. The service is good, the baked goods are fine, but no better than other bakeries we've been to, and the choices are about the same as elsewhere. The prices are also comparable to others around. I must point out, however, that if you like Irish Soda Bread, this is the place to get it. It's the best we've ever had.

All the meals ordered were visually attractive and quite delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal and all had a good time. It is a "go to" place for a terrific lunch.

I've been regularly going to this Dunkin Donuts since I moved into the area. I take my coffee in kind of a special blend with flavors and regular compliments. With a touch of mocha as well as the sugar free toasted almond, I have a flavor that's been right and "my way" to my taste preference.

While most folks would tend to complain about something, I only have compliments to the folks that work there. Not only don't they go the 20 questions about how I concocted my way, but most of them after making it once or twice, remember the combination. Those that I see on my regular visits not only remember it, but they automatically go "extra large" and have the coffee ready by the time I get to the register. Couldn't ask for more personalized service.

Pleased to compliment these folks.

Mrs. Walker's has a great selection of treats. As a Diabetic, it's good to have no sugar/sugar free selections when the sweet tooth i beckoning. One of the other great options, ready made and package are their "Chipwich" treats (Ice cream wheel sandwiched between chocolate chip cookies).

Only complaint is the lack of regular milk for shakes with sugar free ice cream. I was disappointed that they only use the soft serve mix as their shake liquid. Kind of defeats the purpose of a sugar free shake!

We were in the area on business and my wife said we should try this restaurant. It was wonderful. I had what may have been the best seafood dish I have ever eaten and my wife enjoyed hers as well. We ordered an inexpensive Pino from their very nice wine list (they have a full bar) and started our meals with both of us ordering She Crab Soup with sherry. The soup was served piping hot and the sherry added to the great and hearty flavor. My wife then had a sea food fra diavolo main course and I had a mixed broiled sea food plate (I believe called the Captain's platter). The stuffed flounder, shrimp and scallops were perfectly prepared (and cooked just as I had ordered them slightly underdone and with no salt) the clam was also delicious. The vegetables were cooked to a firm consistency and the rice that I had was well prepared. My wife's pasta was excellent. The ambience of the restaurant is great. They have daily specials. The day that we were there the special was prime rib and it was served from a buffet table. They also have a lobster night. Service was great, pleasant and attentive and the server made every effort to make us comfortable and answer all our questions. Even at 8 p.m. on a weekday night the restaurant was doing a very active business and the bar was full. I must say that I loved the evening and can't wait to go back.

I've ordered dishes cooked here, bought bread, cookies, and soup made here, all of which is excellent. My only problem is that we stopped going because the prices were higher than elsewhere. true, you get what you pay for, but we felt it could be a bit more affordable. I'm sure the market has many customers, or it wouldn't be around long, but for those of us on a retirement budget, sadly, we have to find another, more affordable market. Still, if you can afford the prices, try the market. The food cooked right there is quite good.

Kristy's Casual Dining

Reviewed By Aghavni - Tuckerton, New Jersey

Kristy's is owned by the same folks who own the Galloway Diner. In fact, the menu seems to be identical. We've been going to the Galloway Diner for years, and went to Kristy's for the first time yesterday. I had the Florentine Omelet, which was one of about 8-10 specials of the day. It's made with spinach, feta, and onions, but I had it without the onions. It was delicious! My son had a cheddar omelet, which was also very good. The only complaint I have is with their home fries; imagine a blob of mashed potatoes that has a crispy crust on top and bottom.

Our waitress was excellent -- attentive, but not annoying. Also, they have diner prices, so we spent well under $20. I'd go there again if I'm in the area. Next time I'll try something from the lunch or dinner part of the menu.

Doyle's Pour House

Reviewed By moffaF - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

What a great spot! Stopped in on a Sunday with some friends while out on our bikes. After riding almost a hundred miles we came across Doyle's. Greeted quickly to a high top table we sat. Being a Sunday, everywhere you look, there is a tv. Hosting football on this day but have what's popular for the time. Bottles were cold which was my preference. Others who had tap said it was good. Meaning the lines are clean and cold. I read about this place being a best of for wings. Of course we had to try and we were not disappointed. Sad nj magazine didn't give them a higher spot for wings. Had the captain morgans spicy back on the grill. Wow! Unique in their own way. For the time we were there it was busy and the service was great. Didn't have to wait or ask for anything. Looking around, neither did other guests. The staff works together and it shows. Great decor that keeps your eyes looking for more. They have a pool table too. Bathrooms are clean and newer. If you plan to visit and your on a bike, the parking lot is paved so no worries. Access from main (rt9) or bay ave. Looking forward to making another Sunday run to this place. Next time I'll be sure to tell more people.
