You won't find big chain superstores or fast food restaurants in Virginia City. Instead you will find streets steeped in the history of the Gold Rush and the birth of the American West. The once silver and gold lined Comstock Lode drew thousands of miners, including American writer Mark Twain, to its promise of riches. Now the town preserves its illustrious past with tours, restored historical architecture, informative museums and commemorative events for all ages.

VA. City is a huge tourist trap. I generally do not go near cities like this. But we had a nice drive up the Mtn. until we hit main street. A jumble of crowded kitsch emporiums.
Luckily we found this wonderful Mex. restaurant on the edge of town. Just far enough out to not be in the trap itself. Our food was very good. Portions are large. My wife and I split a salad and order of cheese enchiladas. Chips and salsa were also tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. In my opinion, this place would be the only reason to visit town.

Who can resist home made fudge or toffee crunch, not me. The ladies in the shop where very friendly. They even offered free samples. Most everything is packaged and ready for purchase. If you want to buy anything over a pound the friendly staff will assist you. The toffee crunch I purchased was delicious.

Family style restaurant great for groups and children that become a fun music and dance venue on Friday and Saturday nights
The Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, NV is very cool. I was there during Reno Street Vibrations, so the whole town was filled with bikers and motorcycles. If you don't like this kind of stuff, I suggest you don't go there. Oh, Red Dog...MoreThanks for stopping in and enjoying a beer and a good review! We will be here next Street Vibrations for you to enjoy.

Wow! This is one of the nicest candy stores I've ever been to. It's really clean, colorful and very pleasant to walk around. They have all kinds of candy and it's so much fun to reminisce (and buy!) all the vintage candy you can't find elsewhere. They also sell ice cream which was delicious and they were very generous with the portions.

When visiting Virginia City this is a must!! I had the applewood smoked pastrami with Swiss sandwich with fresh Mac and cheese as my side. This was the best pastrami I have had and the other options we have had have been the same ... would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting!!

They were sampling a jalapeño peanut brittle. Wow, wow, wow! It was interesting and so good. The heat and sweet of the candy was delicious. Even my husband who turns his nose at anything the slightest unexpected really liked it. We recommend you try some if you like sweet and spicy combinations.

Stopped in for lunch on a cold and rainy Nov 16. We were seated promptly, waitress arrived shortly took both our drink and entrée order. We had a 3 Cheese Melt and a Turkey Club w/raspberry Ice Tea. The club was $10.99 and the cheese melt was $8.59, Raspberry Ice Tea was $2.69. Food was very good and the portions were adequate. A good option for lunch while in Virginia City.

Burgers, hot dogs, shakes, etc.
The message is the same, The Creamery has wonderful outdoor seating both in front in back, great views, and the best place in town to people-watch! The deli sandwiches, cold and hot coffees and lattes, and the ice cream are definite favorites. Richard and Zoe and gracious and funny hosts!
Stop by on your next visit to Virginia City!

The Gold Hill Hotel is a picturesque country inn located in Gold Hill, Nevada, one mile south of Virginia City in the Comstock Historic District. It is the oldest hotel in Nevada and offers guest facilities in the original 1861 stone structure, a 1987 addition, and several separate historic lodges. Each room features a private bath and is uniquely decorated in period style with antiques and reproductions. The Crown Point Restaurant offers fine dining, and the Gold Hill Saloon provides guests with a rustic environment to relax and unwind.
We ate here because we were staying at the Gold Hill Hotel, same property. We thought a 5th best place on TripAdvisor would be a good experience, and not need to go into Virginia City.
We were seated by a window with a great view. We ordered drinks and they came. Ordered dinner. Nothing for 45 minutes. Others came later and got food. No reason was given. Finally the food arrived. Not great. She had chicken salad, me a pasta. Salad was short of chicken, pasta was OK.
It was a painful, unsatisfying, hour and a half ordeal. Should have driven to another place.
Anywhere in Virgina City has to be better than this place. The next day we had breakfast and lunch elsewhere and it was great.
