Before leaving Cuiabá we´ve decided to have a last stop at the Lelis. Good reviews and references but it was not the experience that we´ve expected. The diversity of fishes and flavoring mix all tastes making it difficult to separate the flavors and taste the true taste of the different varieties of fish at their best. In spite of that it is an experience on its own, not to be missed.

For Brazilians, the "Quatro Rodas" travel magazine ratings used to be the only reasonable reliable ratings source for restaurants and hotels before Trip Advisor. The magazine is still great and better in details relating to the true experience for every atraction in Brazil. If you are not a native Brazilian, a Lonely Planet carefull Reading combined with Quatro Rodas Reading will be a great source for narrow your options on restaurants, places to visit and hotel. Quatro Rodas rated Mahalo the BEST restaurant in Central West Brazil. We doubted and booked to check, The reservation process was kind, efficient and without exageration, cozy. Mahalo is a fancy, modest, classy, friendly and outstanding experience. You may wear black tie or jeans and polo shirt and still get EXACTLY the same treatment. The service, while top class, is not invasive. The service is quiet and discrete, not overwhelming and " brazilian". The food is really unbeatable and in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro would be three times more expensive. We can not suggest one particular dish as we had four different ones and the were all to perfection. I chose the " pintado" that is in the menu for over a decade. It tasted so fresh it seemed as if the "pintado" was caught that morning. The desserts, particularly the brazilian style ones, are delicious. Ariani, the stylish, simple and royal family speaking tone came to our table to meet us and understand how we would like our food. We know several chefs, but Ariani has been able to assemble a team to envy the best paid executives in the world. A can't miss experience in Brazil and definitely one of the best in this full of great genuine options country.

A very good "all you can eat" fish restaurant. Several types of fishes are provided either grilled, baked, or stewed. There is also a traditional beef cut named picanha served. Nice view of Cuiaba river, being the price good for the serve (USD20).

The name is misleading because it is not a traditional Italian restaurant considering that it is specialized in cod dishes that are typically Portuguese. My favorite is cod with cream. The cold cod salad is also very good. The service is friendly and efficient. The vine list is simple with a very limited selection.

Looking after new options for the tourists who will come to Cuiabá, a host city for the world cup 2014, SESC (System related to the commerce sector) founded the restaurant SESC MANGABA where it used to be a very famous local restaurant called Regionalíssimo. I consider it the best restaurant in town despite the price not being so attractive for an everyday meal but I go there at least twice during the month to appreciate the best local dishes in a very charming confortable ambient... if you´re passing by the city it´s a must be place and very close to SESC ARSENAL a cultural meeting-point and the food is unforgetably great.

Next to the Hotel Taina, and they take credit cards, so if you don't have Brazilian reals, you can still eat.

This was a very enjoyable lunch in a very large restaurant. Fortunately, it was mid-week as I'm sure that weekends (or evenings) must be very crowded. After choosing vegetable and side dishes, a series of waiters arrived with meats cut to order. Lamb, beef and pork were brought, all different cuts and also cooked in different ways. All were delicous and well worth tasting, but it did mean that it was very easy to eat too much. So beware. Desserts were full of cream and chocolate and very fattening! I'm glad we visited, enjoyed it a lot and did not have to eat again for the rest of the day.

This small and nice family run coffee shop located in an old house in a narrow side street is specialized in Brazilian style tapioca crepes. Tapuoca is extracted from casava roots native to the north region of Brazil. The crepes are served with a wide range of salted or sweet fillings. My favorites fillings are sun-dried salted beef with cheese, withe sauce and clarified butter and for dessert chese with coconut and condensed milk.
