Things to do in Union Pier

We've vacationed in the Union Pier area several times but somehow always manage to miss eating at this restaurant. This trip we said we definitely must try it. Our first night we decided to, but really just wanted to stay in our cottage and not eat out. We were literally 2 min. away so we ordered take out. I got the rib mac n cheese and my husband got the flat iron steak. We both were soooo disappointed. The mac n cheese was not cheesy at all. It was kind of a soupy mess. The "rib meat" was more like pulled pork, but stringy, grisly in some spots, and hard as a rock in other. Then it was drenched in bbq sauce on top. Now I love me some BBQ sauce, but this was ridiculous. My husband's steak was WAY under cooked when it was supposed to be medium. I'm pretty sure we still heard it moo. Also it was completely unseasoned. For $40 it was a tremendous let down. The portions were huge BUT does it really matter when you don't want to eat it?! Oh...and also I was upcharged for soup instead of salad. When asked what dressing I wanted I asked if there's any other options than salad. I was told I could get soup instead but never told there was an extra charge. Well...there was. It was only a $1 but still. Things like that should be brought to the customer's attention. FYI: Take out is picked up at the bar...which was crazy busy, and the bartender didn't really want to deal with take out orders so it took forever to get their attention. :(

Cute, little place with a wide variety of ice cream flavors. One scoop equals two mini scoops. I can never decide what I want, so I get two mini scoops so I can have 2 ice cream flavors. The portions are generous and prices arent bad. Place is filled with hundreds of different pig figurines, etc. Fun to look around. Expect a crowd in the summer months/peak season.By sharing your experiences, you're helping travelers make better choices and plan their dream trips. Thank you!

Friend recommended this restaurant which is know for people from Chicago to drive just to have meal. Gorgeous outside sitting watching native garden but when food arrived you just forget about everything else. Menu is not big but anything on it is delicious. There were three of us so got chance to try 3 dishes and they were amazing and so tasty. Even presentation of rice is so colorful. Would drive there from Chicago area anytime again just to taste the food.

The Cafe at the Pumpernickel in Union Pier was a great local eatery. The outside appearance with old brick implied an outdated mom & pop diner, but inside, the restaurant was modern and clean and decorated well.
We would have LOVED to see the teen staff trained to make our experience even better as the food was good. I had a HUGE portion of locks on my bakery bagel and my husband was very pleased with his frittata. With that said, since the food is pretty important, the teen staff wasn't able to effectively serve, focusing on only one table at a time, so we waited a long time to get water, order, and get the extras we needed during the meal. Friendly, but inexperienced. We were anxious to get on with our vacation day, so spent too much time inside waiting.
Take your time, and go. Only real breakfast served right in Union Pier.

Dave's is located in the historic Lakeside Inn hotel. I have not viewed the rooms but the public areas are very woodsy, welcoming, and from another era. Dave's restaurant serves breakfast, weekend brunch, and special seasonal events. I ordered the sourdough French toast, excellent as was my extra crispy bacon. My partner enjoyed the Kitchen omelet, generous portions, fresh, hot, plus the host/chef was professional and cordial. You are surrounded by woods and Lake Michigan, hard to beat the ambiance.

Tried sample platter that included brisket, ribs and pulled pork. Ribs had meat falling off, brisket was very juicy. Pulled pork was a little dry for my taste but still good. The BBQ was a bit on a too sweet side for my taste. Loved the corn bread. Plenty of delicious food.
Service was very welcoming. The owner came out and greeted, made sure we were satisfied.
The restaurant was clean, nice decor, spacious bathroom.
Come enjoy:)

This little shop is a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch. We have only eaten breakfast there, but continue to go back regularly. They have a huge variety of muffins (not cheap -$4) and a variety of breakfast items. My husband loves the Mexican sandwich. I had the lemon/rosemary muffin. Due to Nani's being located in a resort community, it is closed during the winter. I believe it opens in May on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Mid June it is open every day.

Iconic local spot. We were there on St Patrick's Day, a Saturday. Full of revelers and fun. The service did not suffer as a result. Food was very good....I had the fish tacos and my sister had the cod sandwich; plus very good fries. The dozens and dozens of photos of dogs in all kinds of poses, and over a 100 year span, hung throughout the restaurant: the most memorable part of the experience and worth the time to view. In season, there is outdoor seating. The Stray Dog is a must when visiting New Buffalo. Highly recommend.

Beachside Scoops is now closed for the season in New Buffalo Michigan. Stop by on your way to the beach, or after a hot day of sun and sand! Beachside Scoops is a full-service ice cream parlor, specializing in premium ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, and espresso-based coffee drinks. Enjoy our air-conditioned space and free internet.
Excellent variety, fantastic service, and generously sized scoops of ice cream. I will make this a regular stop during my future trips to New Buffalo.
Sure, there were a few kids present, but it's an ice cream parlor. If you can't cope with kids, try visiting one of the nearby bars.
