Distances between towns in Montana can be long. The Mountie Moose Bakery in Townsend is a great place to stop for a cup of coffee and a bakery treat. The ladies who run the bakery are friendly, the coffee is great, and the food is tasty. This is a Montana, small-town stop you'll enjoy.

We travel frequently to Helena to visit family. On Mondays , they head to work and we travel home. This was the first time we stopped in Townsend for breakfast. Service was very friendly and the menu simple. The Coffee was the best I every had at a restaurant. Excellent Coffee that is Montana roasted and grounded in store. Friendly staff and great breakfast.

Here's another restaurant that is definitely a locals hang out. Honestly the food is ok. The service we had for our lunch dinner one night was much better than what we received Sunday morning for breakfast. But again the main reason we went to this location was the bar had cold smoked Scottish ale on tap. We had a couple glasses with dinner and that helped wash down the food period again the food is OK it's a local Hangout

The Wood's Family Restaurant was recommend to me by friends and co-workers. Wood's is not a fancy restaurant but a small, comfortable country, and welcoming establishment. During my two week stay in Helena I ate at Wood's a total of three times. My first meal was a takeout Hamburger with fries. The waitress asked me if I wanted a whole burger or half of one. I had never been asked that question in my life and thought that it was an odd question to ask. What the heck I thought and I ordered the whole. When I opened my two take out boxes I could not believe my eyes. The hamburger was huge and the fries portion was equally large. There was no way that I could have possibly ate the whole hamburger. The other two times I ate there I ordered chili with tuna melt sandwich and a very good pizza. The chili and tuna melt were good but the meat lovers pizza was simply outstanding. They do not serve and alcoholic beverages. I considered the prices to be cheap for the quality and portions of food. I had the pleasure of speaking with the restaurant owner, Liz. She was very pleasant and when I complemented her the all the food I had eaten she informed me that they hand make all their breads and pizza dough. Outstanding! Wood's reminded me of the many family owned (not chain) restaurants that I have eaten at during my life. These family owned restaurants have a charm that is hard to explain. I have no doubt that when I return to Helena that I will again visit the Wood's Family Restaurant.

Located next to the KOA Kampground, this little gem was within walking distance to the campground.
Loved the kitschy pink bus you could eat inside. Adorable flamingo decor and mini golf course. The food was great. My husband said his Tuna Melt was the best he ever had. We just had to go back for dinner a few hours later. Friendly people, just loved the whole atmosphere of this place.

This is my new favorite burger place. The remodeled former Winston Bar is bright and clean. The burgers are fantastic and the fries are even better than that. I highly recommend, however take cash because they don't take credit cards. Certainly worth the drive from Helena.

The best east coast style pizza in the area!
I guess its called "The Betsy". That is what our receipt says. The entrance is confusing. We were looking for the bar and the door we entered was a closet! Anyway, the entryway is in dire need of updating, painting, remodeling,hole-in-the-wall repair. The bartender girl,Chelsey is what the receipt says, was nice enough. We ordered a calzone and chicken parm sandwich. It took half an hour. I know the calzone probably takes longer. Truthfully, it was worth the wait. The calzone was huge, cheezy, and very good. I ordered mine with alfredo sauce, chicken, and spinach. Hubby's sandwich was good too he said. One problem I had was there were no sugar caddies for my iced tea. I asked bartender for one and she said they don't have them but they had sugar cubes. I said ok. Then, ick, she picked up 4 or 5 with bare hands and put on napkin for me. Aside from that lack of hygiene the food, drinks, atmosphere, people were good and friendly. Hubby got homemade chips with his sandwich and my calzone was too big and I had to get a "to go" box. Bottled beer was $2.75, tea only $1.Oh, and I haven't addressed this is awhile but NO, I am not influenced by anyone in the writing of this review.

Great place to stop for a sandwich or pizza. We split a whole sandwich and it was too much for the two of us, but if you have a big appetite then this is your place.

This is a small town bar with cold drinks, bar food, and awesome bartenders. Daily food and drink specials Monday through Friday, karaoke a couple of times a month, and occasional special parties/events. There are always "regulars," but everyone is always welcomed with open arms. John, the new owner is working at updating some things and making it even better. Stop in and tell the girls "hello." Look for Nickie, Peggy, Larissa, and Beca. They'll great you with a warm smile and a cold beverage!

Myself and a friend ate a very good breakfast at Penny's. It was a very full made breakfast and tasted very well. service was pleasant and fast. Looked like lots of locals were there eating and that is always a good sign. I would stop and eat here again. .
