home made food, not chain store bought and re-heated, means this cafe is always busy, which is a bit of a shame if you want to sit down inside and eat. Every time we call in getting a seat is something of a Mission. But the struggle is worth it.

With a french influence, le cafe telephonique offers a modern range of delicious food for the traveller.
Finally after several visits I can say something positive about this place. Although praised by others, every time I have been here previously something has gone seriously wrong; long waits, sloppy service, run out of certain items, indifferent quality. Enough to deter one from returning. However, lunch there recently was almost a delight. We ordered the seafood chowder, which was a thin soup and not a chowder, but was tasty and filling all the same. I had liver and bacon which was nicely cooked – still a bit pink in places which is good – and a generous serve. The bacon needed a bit more cooking, but it all came with sliced apple in a sweet sauce mixed though it which lifted the whole dish. The place still has a dishevelled look with ancient tables and rickety chairs, but that’s its charm I suppose

Used to visit here often when driving to/from Taupo. Garden and outdoor tables are lovely. Food so overpriced though it was a disappointment. $18 for a chicken toasted focaccia and don’t think the bread was homemade. The chocolate tart was beautiful but at $6.50 for a small slice and no offer of cream or yoghurt, again too much. Won’t be back at these prices.

Stopped for a snack and toilet break. Looks pretty basic but the staff/owners were pleasant and welcoming and there was a good selection of hot & cold food and snacks for the kids. A pleasant experience!

The sushi here is ok. Nothing wrong with it. It is expensive considering the portion size but the floors in the toilet and restaurant were so dirty I felt sick. Not sure when they were last mopped. Yuck. It's unusual for s Japanese restaurant to be dirty like this. Never going back

A quick and easy place to dine. Clean, plenty of Seating, and the fast service you would expect at McDonald's. Not being a regular McDonald's customer, I found the meal adequate (the wrap) but hubby -who was hungry after a longish drive reordered another burger! Rest room was spotless. Plenty of parking.

Generations dated back to the Sultanate era of authentic Halal Malay cuisine. Carefully imported ingredients from the straits prepared and served high up in the Mountains of Rangitikei, New Zealand. Straits Kitchen, A Peninsula's appetite to please the Sultans
Stopped for a late lunch, no problem to serve us though. The food was really tasty and very authentic. Although pretty empty by the time we arrived the background music created a very welcoming atmosphere. Service was really quick and really friendly, will make Straits Kitchen a regular on our way through Taihape from now on.
