Narfeyrarstofa

Narfeyrarstofa restaurant and café is the oldest operating restaurant in Stykkishólmur. It’s a family business and is open all year round. Narfeyrarstofa’s menu features inventive dishes served artfully in the beautiful surroundings of the restaurant, where utterly charming views from the premises bring life to the atmosphere. There is a strong emphasis on creativity in the kitchen, and it is safe to say that craftsmanship is held in high regard, as the ingredients are of the finest quality and sourced locally wherever possible. Narfeyrarstofa’s chefs prepare all ingredients from scratch, and the kitchen makes use of a powerful meat processor as local meat is prepared in different ways for the various dishes on the menu. From the restaurant there are views over Breiðafjörður bay’s “natural pantry”. Ingredients from there are on the table every day, exceptionally fresh. Blue mussels from Breiðafjörður are always on offer when in season. The menu also has a selection of hamburgers, proclaimed to be “the real deal”, “juicy” and “even better than búllaburgers” by our guests, who come back for them again and again! Our wine menu is unusually diverse and features specially selected wines of various types. The restaurant is in a two-storey house built in 1906 in the heart of Stykkishólmur, by the old church that towers over Aðalgata. There is room for 70 people indoors, and it’s also possible to sit outside when the weather’s nice. The atmosphere at Narfeyrarstofa is warm and welcoming, and the staff and the owners do everything they can to provide outstanding service to their guests.

Located directly across the street from our hotel the Narfeyrarstofa was an obvious and excellent choice for dinner. My wife and I shared the fish soup. It was wonderful. Fresh fish and shellfish was abundantly distributed throughout the bowl. My wife had the local burger while I had more super fresh seafood with the spaghetti. All great choices. Bread and butter were also very good. We would definitely return.

After going through the options online and selecting this restaurant for our dinner, we called up the given number and were told that the restaurant is open. Website showed that it would be open till 12 midnight. We reached there just before 8pm and were surprised to see it closed.
I don't know what was wrong, either they closed early, or the number given on the website belonged to some other place (we didn't say the name of the restaurant after calling, just asked them whether they were open or not).
But same has happened with us I Iceland once before as well.... specially at less populated and far to reach towns.
My suggestion is that these places should update their information on the website so that travelers are not misled.

Our whole family longed for a decent meal after a long, snowy drive. Without choice in a small town, we found this restaurant, serving us late lunch at 3pm in the whole restaurant. After having soup for several days, we decided to share some light dishes in a tight budget as the dishes were a bit pricey. The waiter was really friendly and helpful. He advise us to head back to Reykjavik after we finished our late lunch as there was storm coming couple of hours later. Anyway, we enjoyed all those dishes we ordered. I loved the most was the scallops and salad, they were so delicious and were beautifully presented as an art piece. Only a few table in the small cozy restaurant so you must book before you visit in normal case. Anyway, the food was really good and I loved the whole experience here.

We were SO disappointed to find this hot dog truck closed the first day we arrived in Stykkisholmur. It was open the next day thankfully. When asked, the friendly manager told me it was too windy to open the day before (so be forewarned). They offer a deep-fried option, which I chose, fully loaded Icelandic style, complete with crispy onions and melted cheese. So decadent and heavenly, I went back for a second after devouring the first one. As much as I loved Baejarins Beztu in Reykjavik, I would say this one is better.

We bake fresh pastries and bread each morning and specialize in sourdough bread. We have a good selection of pastries all from traditional icelandic "ástarpungur and kleina" to american donuts. For lunch we offer soup with bread and sandwiches in the cooler.

There are limited restaurants here and if you are not a HUGE fan of seafood it is a bit of a challenge. So we took a walk and found Nesbraud. At first we weren't sure they actually served something for dinner but their sign out front (see pictures) was pretty clear. We were served by a nice young man (we know he was young because another customer asked for a beer but he politely said that no on was old enough to be able to sell it).
Yes it really isn't a fancy place but it was clean and the pizza was delicious and reasonably priced in a country were everything is rather expensive. At the end of the day there are really not any baked goods left but that isn't what we were there for.
If you are looking for a quiet, decent place for a reasonably priced pizza feel comfortable going in. Loved their "No WIFI" sign which encouraged you to talk to each other!

Very good fish and chips and the price is good too. You even can see the guy cook your food so you know it is just made for you and not pre made. The guy there is friendly. We got good weather when we were there so we enjoyed our food at a table outside.

Little cute yellow house full of calm atmosphere in the middle of Stykkisholmur. Beautiful place to eat good food made with joy and lots of love. .

Essentially an up-market burger bar (well, not that up-market...) with a modest menu, but excellent burgers with masses of irresistibly tasty chips. I had a pulled pork wrap which was so good that I would've had another -- if I'd been able to eat another bite. One of the very few places in Iceland where I came out of a restaurant feeling that the bill was *almost* justified by the food!
The place was disconcertingly empty when we walked in, but it quickly got busy, mostly with local clients

My mom and I spent the day on Snaefellsnes and needed some energy to keep us going once we reached Stykkisholmur. We searched all over for coffee but found it difficult to find later in the day there. Even though this place was closed when we stopped by, the owner was there and she made us coffee anyway. She was so sweet and her family sat down and had a great conversation with us over coffee. If you want a real local experience, this is definitely the place for you! The coffee and biscottis are soooooo good!!!
