This lunch with friends was to celebrate a birthday. Almost all of us had their wonderful gourmet burgers. The other person had "probably the best fish tacos I've ever eaten". The burgers are truly superb and well worth the journey. I had the Stroganoff Burger...MoreThank you for selecting us for your special birthday gathering. We look forward to your return. - Alan

Blue Ridge Cafe & Catering Co.

Chef Shawn Hayes, owner and chef of the Blue Ridge Cafe, has a real passion for food and creativity. He believes that good food, well prepared and offered at a reasonable price keeps his customers coming back. And, it's true! Virginians and travelers have been enjoying Shawn's cooking since he and his wife, Rita, opened the Cafe's doors in 1995. Dreaming of being a chef in the hospitality industry since age 12, Chef Hayes pursued his ambition and received a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 1988. Since then, he and his family have dedicated days, nights and weekends to ensuring the success and quality of their business. Rita assists Shawn wherever she is needed - from the kitchen to catering and menu planning. And, the Hayes' daughter, Elizabeth, actually christened the cafe with her birth just 12 hours before the scheduled opening. The first banquet room was opened in 1997 just after their son, Nicholas, was born. Both children have grown up working with and around food at the cafe and catered functions. His years of experience in the field, and being in the right place at the right time, enabled Chef Shawn to make his dream come true. He enjoys preparing a variety of different foods, but his specialties are American fare and Italian cuisine. In addition to his role as Chef, Shawn is also involved in every other aspect of the Cafe, including managing the catering and banquets, the business office and designing the menus. Shawn and the Cafe are also known for their support of and dedication to the local community. The Blue Ridge Cafe is located on Route 29 (south bound lane) in Ruckersville, VA, just north of Charlottesville. Surrounded by the lovely Blue Ridge Mountains, visitors to the Cafe are sure to enjoy the atmosphere. Whether for lunch, dinner or socializing over drinks and appetizers, the Cafe offers its customers delicious food, a full-service bar and a wide variety of Virginia wines. The Blue Ridge Cafe is the perfect place for gathering family and friends. So, if you'd like to experience Chef Shawn's knack for making even simple foods spectacular, stop by the restaurant or call to book your next catered affair today!

Valentine's dinner. Didn't feel like driving a great distance so decided to visit the Blue Ridge Cafe. Previous visit was outstanding. This visit, for Valentine's dinner was somewhat disappointing, perhaps partly due to expectations. My wife's dinner was good but barely warm. My meal was a bit more disappointing. Steak was cooked medium but was extremely dry (not juicy at all), lobster tail was too chest, crab cake reminded my of a cod fish cake. However crab dip was very good. Service was very good, but this time the kitchen was their downfall. Was not that busy as we arrived shortly after 1pm... So expected that the kitchen would not be rushed and could devote time to achieve excellence. Didn't happen, especially disappointing on a special dinner day.

Had a great breakfast to celebrate my birthday with my hubby! The truffled eggs Benedict was excellent! Farmers breakfast for my husband also was great. The house made sausages are always a special treat! We even were treated to mimosas because we had to wait a bit for our food! Jack’s Shop Kitchen is such a great addition to Ruckersville!

Sombrero's

I've become a regular at Sombrero's. The owners are beautiful people who simply want to provide a good dining experience for their clientele. Very informal atmosphere, delicious food, and very affordably priced. I had the breakfast burrito at about 9:30am and it was so filling that I'll be skipping lunch! I probably should have carried half of it home. Their coffee is not the boring drip-style. This is really finely prepared coffee, dark and flavor-packed -- I'll be alert all day! And all for six bucks -- are you kidding me??!! Stop in, enjoy, you won't regret it. Thank you, Bernardo and Lucrecia for your nice little restaurant and for your entrepreneurial spirit. Keep up the good work!

Sal's Pizzeria & Family Restaurant

Sal's is a neat little Italian/Pizza place that looks and feels like it could have been taken from any city's Little Italy. The pizza is tasty if not a little unmemorable. At the very least it's the best place to eat at late night in Stanarsville.

Nice as it was, the Greene Eatery suffered the vagaries of a population that didn't understand it. Some folks thought it was "Fussy", others were insulted by the Hours of Operation. Whatever the reason, the Town lost a unique restaurant and a golden opportunity. Too bad for us, Stanardsville!
Next up in this location, is some form of Mexican. I wish them well!
