Great food, good taste. Portions could be a little bigger. Enjoyed the soups, salads, and fresh coffee. Recommended.

The 'build your own breakfast' is very good. Eggs, bacon, baked beans, fantastic toasted home-made whole wheat bread, tomato, hash brown, mushrooms, etc. It's a little pricey, though - more than 40 yuan if you have the full mashings, but was definitely worth it.
Pizza is good, but on and ultra thin base. Real cheese.
The menu is limited - not as much choice as at N's Kitchen in Lijiang, but adequate. No spaghetti for our 7 year old! I liked the coffee.
Service was relatively slow.

We have been to Tara's Gallery a couple of days ago. It has been a really nice surprise. They propose different local specialities but also Indian food. We had flat bread with eggplant mousse, chicken curry and another Yunnan dish. Shangri La beer, the best. The owner, an Indian lady, is very nice and friendly. The place is an old Tibetan house very charming. It is also an art gallery and you can see nice mandala on the wall you can buy.
I recommend this place!

Tired of all the overpriced (and overhyped) boutique-like restaurants? Or the cold open local restaurants...?
Then you should try this no-nonsense, no pretentious restaurant. A nice alternative to what Shangrila has to offer.
This place feels like an old European tavern...! The food choice is wide (from Chinese, to Korean, to Italian), the portions more than abundant, the service very friendly and helpful.
We were here during the cold days of November, and the owners did their best to make us feel comfortable and warm!l Marco, the Italian co-owner entertained till deep hours of the night with all sorts of local stories and experiences...
I will surely go back at my next chance!
Tip: try the local Shangrila-La wine (ask the owner), let it breathe 5 minutes and enjoy it...! Among the best local-Chinese wines you can taste!!!

Somewhere Else Cafe is an Cafe-Restaurant in the heart of Shangri-La Old Town. We were founded in 2011, and has been providing quality food and service to the locals and tourists. After the fire of 2014, we’ve moved up onto Pijiangpo, 20m up the hill from the Dancing Square. We are well known for our good coffee and pastries. The menu is mostly European. Some guests come for breakfast, some to meet friends and drink some good wine. Others come to have a decent meal. But after one visit, they all come back! Staff speaks Dutch, English, Chinese, French and Tibetan. Welcome!
This place is amazing if you need to relax after Tiger Leaping gorge and have a hankering for some Western food/coffee. We ate here everyday for breakfast during our three days in Shangri-la (my partner would have had every meal here if I'd let him). One of the excellent things about this place is that it's warm! Definitely required in Shangrila. The couple that own it are also really lovely and helpful. We came to them whenever we needed advice, as the staff at our hostel were not anywhere near as helpful. They are also happy to let you just relax on their couches in front of the fire and read a book, it was just what we needed at the mid-point of our trip through China!

Ate here and had some fantastic food, the yak meat Tibetan hotpot was amazingly good and so was the local Shangri-La brewed beer. The ingredients were all very fresh, loads of vegetables and a great soup. We only had a small hotpot between four of us and it was enough with some sundries, great place for a cool evening, mainly full of locals too.

We went for desserts after dinner and to warm up after a cold walking afternoon in the old town. The place is easy to find, filled with customers, the fare is good, the staff speaks English and is reasonably friendly. WiFi did not work for us but other customers seemed to enjoy skyping within any trouble.

Located in old town Shangri-la, Yunnan ChinaOpen Everyday Monday to Sunday 8:00 am -10:00pmFree internet WiFi to customer18213233163Namgyal New york cafe is operated by a wonderful local Tibetan couple who moved to Yunnan from California. They are very excited to invite you all to try their delicious American style food and also Tibetan local cuisine..
The food was nice (steak and burger) but what made the place special is the exceptional host.she was incredibly friendly and knew how to cater to laowei (give you time to study the menu, answer questions, bring drinks first).
Apparently they have some trouble with guests finding them.they are next to the parking lot at the main entrance (in old town) above the shop that has the yak statue inside. Facing inside old town to your right. And they are on the second floor.there should be a sign on the street.
