This is a small family run Soda in Sarchi across from the park with the world famous painted large Ox Cart that made it in the Guinness Book of World Records. It was suggested to us by a local. The food was reasonable, very tasty and the menu had both Spanish and English. My Meat and Potatoes man could have a burger and fries and a Beer and I could have Comida Tipico. Terry's burger has slices of meat in it and he loved it and I had Aroz con Cerdo which had in addition to pork bits, saffron and fresh cilantro. Very, very nice.
great taste and a great price! This was my second visit - I liked it so much the first time, I too friends who were visiting from the US there - and they were delighted with the serviceand, especially, the food...everything on the menu tastes great (however, don't go "American", try the typical Costa Rica dishes!)

My companion and I had breakfast here. For me the Desayuno Aleman and mi amiga the French Toast. Both done to request, filling and delicious! We sat on the side balcony well screened from the noise of the street. The waitress was attentive and solicitious. The menu offers a wide range of dinning choices for breakfast, lunch, or a complete dinner. The venue also offers a range of canned goods emphsizing German fare. My companion found her favorite, saurkraut, no mean feat in a Latin country. Also, in keeping with the German theme, is a display case of meats, German sausage included, and various breads, cakes, torts, empanadas, media lunas, and jams and marmalade. Pickles even! Superb!

Don Felipe was a wonderful find. While driving through Sarchi, we discovered it as we were looking for where the coffee carts were made, which is next door. The fare focuses on local meats and dishes. The menu also offers tasty fruit drinks which are made on-site every day by the owner. The portions were good sized, even to the point that my carnivore teenage sons were filled with their meals. Their specialties are meat dishes. They also offered locally prepared hot sauce condiments as well.
Their prices were also reasonable on the flavorful local dishes they offered. On our next trip to Costa Rica, this Don Felipe's will be on our list of good places to eat.
The setting of the restaurant with open air dining and scenic views among the Mountains of Costa Rica was refreshing. The staff were friendly and able to communicate with us in English. Although they were friendly and hospitable, they were not the most knowledgeable about where to find other local items. I asked where to find some locally made cigars, and they told me that they did not know of any place that sold them. I went next door to the large cart store and found what I was looking for.
Besides offing local Costa Rican dishes, they also offer Costa Rican coffee for sale.

We stopped by El Mirador for lunch - a little disappointing. First, it was early afternoon and they had workers loudly doing construction on the roof (I didn't know this until after we ordered) - this was at 1:30pm - certainly they could have waited until their afternoon closing time of 3pm??
Ordered typical costa rican dishes - the service was good, but the food was pretty bland overall. Not bad, just not great. Restaurant is clean and staff is friendly, while prices are good. Hopefully we visited on an off day for the kitchen.

Very friendly staff and great pizza. A block from the square. Pizza is then crust and ingredients were very fresh.

A little difficult to find, however, worth the effort. The service was good, the atmosphere and surroundings are delightful. The menu has great selections, fish, carnie and pasta dishes... I had the Sea Bass, the wine selection is limited with few beers to choose.

If you are driving north from the airport in San Jose, this is a must stop! The food is wonderful. Fresh baked pizza in a stone oven. The ingredients are as fresh as can be. Pizza crust is thin, and so tasty. Service is friendly and they do speak English. The restaurant is immediately after the toll plaza so stay in the right lane and look for the sign. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy the breeze, the natural beauty and the great food.

We visited this treasure of a restaurant twice for lunch and once for a coffee and cake. We ordered sandwiches the first time and were also served a bowl of freshly made cream of carrot soup. Words cannot explain how fantastic the soup was. Every morsel of food and sip of drink were delicious. Whoever made the food was not a cook, but rather a chef. The presentation of the food is top notch and only improved by the quality and taste. This is a family run business and most of the staff speak and understand English. They are also happy to help people practice their Spanish if you wish. Can't wait to go back.

The restaurant offers 100% Italian pizzas, thin and crispy. Plus some pasta dishes and desserts prepared as daily specials. The ingredients are carefully chosen always fresh and of the highest quality. We strive to serve our customers in the best way guaranteeing an excellent experience. The facilities are very comfortable and cozy.
Charming, casual Italian restaurant and pizzeria under a beautiful palapa roof. Wonderful friendly owner from Italy and great service! The highlight of Costa Rica dining until now. A bit hard to find, but worth the effort, just outside Naranjo. Don't miss the panna cotta for dessert!
