Food at Blackaddie Country House Hotel is far and above what one would normally expect. Ian, owner and chef, has held a Michelin Star for many years in his previous restaurants, so you can imagine that the food here at Blackaddie is going to be some of the best to be found in Scotland. Recent Awards: Dinner Quality Award and Gold Medal Award for Excellence at the Scottish Hotel Awards5 Stars Exceptional from Food Review ScotlandGold Plate Status from Hotel Review ScotlandSilver Award from Eat ScotlandBlackaddie now has the highest Visit Scotland rating for a hotel restaurant in the Southwest of Scotland. Ian changes the menu daily and uses only fresh products. All dishes are made in their own kitchens where ever possible using locally sourced Scottish ingredients - only the very best will do.
I'd received my gift of a day with a Michelin Chef from my dear friends Alison and Clive.
I arrived for my 10am meeting with Michelin Chef Ian McAndrew and his assistant Jason. Ian had Michelin Stars at 2 of his English Restaurants, before he bought Blackaddie in 2007. We sat down to discuss that evening's menu as Ian changes it every day, subject to available local ingredients.
Menu eventually sorted with 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 pud or cheeses. In addition you get a veloute soup, tonight Jerusalem Artichoke, fennel sorbet and a canapé of puy lentils and a shot glass of gazpacho. All delicious.
So much effort and thought goes into the food.
I stayed in the " Mallard " room, which is one of their 6 rooms, they also have 3 lodges near the river, which you can either fish in or gold pan in. Gold to the value of £10,000 and £3,000 has been taken out recently.
Ian will sort your rods out for a deposit.
You have loads of walks available and tourist attractions like Dumfries House, which Prince Charles organised the funding/ buying of.
I'd highly recommend Blackaddie as a weekend retreat where you and your partner can chill out, in lovely surroundings with lovely people. It's only a few miles off the M74 in beautiful countryside. You'll also love your food. Delicious.

This is a lovely tearoom with a great selection of hot and cold snacks at a reasonable price. There are also home made jams available to purchase to take away, and a small selection of gifts and cards available too. Staff were very friendly.
