Things to do in San Lorenzo

My husband and I went to this restaurant and pena 2 weeks ago, and it was a wonderful evening. Our dinners (carne, of course) were among the best (outside of the gourmet wine tour lunches around Mendoza) that we had in Argentina with a really attentive and fun Waitstaff in a pleasant and odorless environment. But the performers were the highlight. The dancing was very good; the band of classical guitarists, violin and drum, was superb with the very talented singers harmonizing flawlessly; and the last singer not only very good but funny. And we were not alone---we were surrounded by locals who were mouthing the words to the songs, dancing and smiling the whole evening.
As someone who has attended a lot of musical Performances all over the world and studied classical guitar, I can highly recommend this restaurant and pena. Plus, the prices were very reasonable.

Fabulous atmosphere, the food was good classic parrilla fare , including excellent empanadas and humitas and tamales. The music performed by the customers made this place outstanding, it felt very authentic and incredibly charming. There is no official"show" so I suppose you could be unlucky and miss music if no one was performing. There was so much music when we were there I expect it is unusual not to have any.

San Lorenzo is a summer retreat in a moister forest zone a bit higher than Salta town, but is only 15 minutes from Salta's main plaza. Don Sanca is a nice restaurant and tea house that opens to the moss and fern covered trees and Gardens typical of this higher zone. Fresh, locally-made pastas have creative contents (e.g. arugula with goat cheese and almonds). The desserts are elaborate and perfect for the tea house "side". Waiters are attentive and cheerful. Highly recommended.

Ma Cuisine Resto proposes dishes for every taste with the uncomparable touch of french cuisine. Salta, Argentina.
If you've had enough parillada, head for this French themed restaurant. It's about five blocks off the plaza, but better and more intimate than the touristy places on the plaza. We ended up going here two nights for dinner we liked it so much. Each night we had a fish dish, although there are plenty of meat dishes. Entrees include one of the many side dishes, such as mixed vegetables or potatoes. Sauces are excellent. Chef and owner Roberto is very warm and friendly, as is the only server Veronica. Only about eight tables so make a reservation (you can use Facebook Messenger) Very nice wine list as well. A nice dinner for two with a bottle of wine will run you in the $50 range. Very highly recommended.

The restaurant is in a nice location and looks nice too.The service was very slow despite the restaurant wasn't busy that day. I ordered Bife Chorizo which is one of the most popular plates in Argentina. Argentinians are known for their knowledge about cooking good beef but this time was awfully overcooked and tasteless. It took 1h to have my meal! The beef was tasteless!! and the presentation of it was plane and poor in comparison to other places in Salta. I understand that restaurants in San lorenzo are known for quality products because is obvious in their prices. maybe it was not my lucky day. Anyway I left the place very disappointed because I told and explained the waiter about this situation once I received my plate and he seems to ignore this and further more there is no any suggestion from his part to repair o change the beef. I had to ask him afterwords for sauce because it was impossible to eat that meat (very hard, dry, tasteless)
To be fair my companion had another meal and she was happy and satisfied. I wish I could have something different because I liked the place and I love San Lorenzo and Argentina.

Great ambiance, good selections of domestic wines & spirits at a very good price. Gourmet sandwiches made with fresh deli in front of your eyes, but the meat empanadas are the highlight of this place. Watch your lap as the meat juice might stain your clothes. Price for a doz of meat empanadas are $45 (pesos)

Walking out on the hotel suggestion for dinner, and with no idea where to go, we read a few reviews and saw this was close by and decided to give this restaurant located in the Designs Suites hotel a try. A small space and all white and the only people there (we were tourist early), we were unsure if we should walk out on this one as well but we are very glad we stayed! The meal was delicious in almost every way - from the crackers with blue cheese spread, eggplant mille feuille, fantastic tenderloin, corn pudding and couscous risotto sides, to the mouthwatering chocolate mousse. The only item that we didn't love was the chicken but it could not affect our rating as everything else was so good. The server was extremely nice and attentive and was very patient with our very bad spanish! We walked out of the first restaurant (lots of pictures and english translations on the menu) and ended up with one of the best meals of our trip to Argentina for a very reasonable price considering the quality of the food.

We had the Cochinillo Segovia, served with potatoes and vegetables. The service was excellent, and the food was amazing! The prices are reasonable for what you get. I certainly suggest that if you have the opportunity while in salta, you stop by and try it! Just a fair warning, there is a lot of food, so if you are going to order a whole one be sure you have a hungry group with you!!

Thanks to TripAdvisor ratings, we chose this lovely Italian restaurant on our first night in Salta. We were not disappointed. Despite having the place almost to ourselves (never a great sign usually), we had such a charming evening. Service was delicate and professional. Food was Italian with a local twist, all made fresh to order according to e.g. your chosen type of pasta + your chosen type of sauce and/or filling. Highly recommend the ravioli. Desserts were also excellent.
