This restaurant is simply a hidden gem. Everything about it is just right, including a stunning location by the river Tejo, with truly beautiful views. The restaurant is located in the typical little village of the same name Escaroupim.
We visited the restaurant with our 3 children for dinner and it was still light enough to enjoy the surroundings whilst we had our wonderful meal.
Service was excellent, always prompt and courteous.
The food was fantastic, reflecting the local gastronomy, very well made and deliciously tasty. We had game pie as a starter and then tried a couple of variations with bacalhau, one with "alheira" (a northern Portuguese type of sausage) and the other in the oven with a special source.
I totally recommend the trip to this wonderful place even if you drive from Lisbon on purpose.

I was recommended this restaurant by a local. Although it was late in the afternoon, they were more than happy to receive us - And I am glad they did. The starters, the food, the wine, the desert. Everything was perfect. It tastes like genuine homemade portuguese regional food, cooked with love and the result is something amazingly suberb. I couldn't recommend any other in the region. It really is worth the visit. Portions are also incredibly big so don't indulge yourself with the starters - The best will be yet to come. Staff is polite, simple but still professional. A must go - Even if you are on the highway - it is worth the detour (exiting at Aveiras).

Very well baked pizza, lots of flavor, indicating that ingredients are of quality. Did wait a bit between order and Delivery, all in all, very good. And reasonably price.

Being portuguese myself believe me when I see there is probably way better in the area.
The prices were acceptable and nothing out of the ordinary the problem is the restaurant it self.
I called the restaurant after seeing the reviews here in TripAdvisor and decided to go there.
When I called them asked to reserve a table I got the feeling straight away that this is not something they are used to, in fact our table was the only booked.
The restaurant looks really old, I know that is the idea and the point but this doesn't mean that they shouldn't take more care of it. Some of the seats were broken with the wadding coming out.
When we asked about the menu the gentleman said immidiately we only have 3 main courses.... 2 of fish and 1 of meat.
It doesn't take much time to choose that's a given but also doesn't look nice.
We went for the codfish and also for the chicken (frango à passarinho). The person who chose the chicken regret it since it was too dry. The codfish was good but nothing special.
For the desert we had some pudding and a chocolate mousse, the pudding was too sweet and not tasty as it should. the mousse was the regular in this kind of restaurants.
Yes the decor is nice, if gives you an old feeling, some of the posters on the wall are true history and should be in a museum.

I came here to try one of traditional Portuguese food, "Stone Soup" in weekend. I got there around 2pm for lunch, a bit late time, but it was still crowded with people for family lunch. There's potato, bean, pork, chourico and coriander in soup. Soup was pretty big for two people but we finished all, and we tried grilled bacalhau with potato and mangusto(mashed bread with bean and cabbage) as well. I felt like home-cooked from them. Muito bom!

Friendly, impecably cooked, highly digestible dishes. We had "chocos fritos" and "bife do lombo". The service is fast, friendly but very professional. Other info about the venue: great car park, nice spatious restaurant. We intend returning to "Zé do moinho".

If you are travelling north on the A1 motorway it is worth to get off at the N3 national road turn off for Azumbuja and go along this road about 8 kilometres to this restaurant which is behind a petrol station.
If all this does not sound very promising wait until you taste the food. The starters, main courses and Deserts are superb. The owner is from Galicia in the north of Spain and they have the fame and quite rightly for running first class restaurants.
The fish was super fresh and we had a large grilled sea bass served with a delicious mixture of fresh vegatables followed by an excellent almond tart . The service is good and the overall quality is value for money.

We visited this restaurant as a family of five, two adults and three children.
What a lovely meal we had. The service was absolutely outstanding, the owner himself serving at the table, giving great advice on what to chose. A very curious fact is that the restaurant's name owes its name to its owner, who had a natural double coloured moustache, half black and half white!
Food was absolutely delicious, we had some fresh cheese, followed by a great fish soup, followed by "bacalhau com natas", a speciality. Truly wonderful. The kids had "bifinhos do lombo" ate everything (quite unusual and a sign of "yumminess").
We also had great Deserts that included rice pudding, chocolate mousse and a great "semi-frio" or ice cold cheese cake with wild fruits.
Price was lower than expected as quality was so high.
A great meal in a great restaurant. If you happen to be anywhere near Salvaterra de Magos this is the one to go for.
