WINNER OR THE GOOD FOOD GUIDE'S BEST RESTAURANT IN THE NORTH EAST 2016 Located in the Cathedral city of Ripon, Lockwoods provides a relaxed place to enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner. We're about classic, seasonal cooking and our modern European menu focuses on flavour not geography, but always maintains a strong nod towards our Yorkshire roots. We use the best seasonal produce that we can find and source much of our produce locally, particularly in the summer months, when we use the heritage garden 200 yards from our front door. We also have a wide range of local and European beers and a great wine list (currently 25 bins). We have received many accolades for our food, service and atmosphere, including "No 1 Family Run Restaurant in the UK" by The Times, recommended by The Independent, nominated for "Best Neighbourhood Restaurant" by Yorkshire Life, recognised in the Observer Food Awards, and listed in the Which Good Food Guides. We're a family run restaurant that has been established for over 10 years and happy to cater for groups, families, children, vegans, vegetarians.... and everyone in between. Put simply, we're a place that you'll want to come back to time and time again. AND IF IT'S NOT ON THE MENU - JUST ASK. Open Tuesday to Sunday Great value early bird menu 6-7 pm. Regular special events such as Call my Bluff Wine evening, Live jazz or our very popular tapas evening. Menus available for Children, Vegetarians and other dietary requirements, or just ask us and we'll cook it! Full disabled access throughout.
Enjoyed lunch after visiting the Ripon workhouse museum nearby and we were well impressed. Restaurant has a nice feel about it, service was good, and the food was good quality, well presented, and the right amount too. Well worth the good reviews it gets here.Hi Nick, Thank you for your review, we are all really pleased you enjoyed your visit, and look forward to seeing you again soon. Matthew Lockwood

Mario's Restaurant 27 is a family run restaurant est. in 2004.We pride ourselves in home-made pastas, bread, pizzas, desserts and so much more. The Restaurant is owned by chefs Mario and Maria, and run by their son Marco, and his great enthusiastic staff. We have an array of menus sure to please everybody, from the Early Birds 5-7pm 9.99, House Menu changed monthly available all night 14.95 (both 2 courses, side order, coffee/tea.And also our A la carte menu with over 90 choices, not to forget the fresh specials changed daily.Situated 100 yards from Ripon's historic Cathedral, its a fantastic place for any occasion.Do not miss your chance to visit Mario's 27. Fabolous dessert board and also fantastic wine choices, we purchase and select ingredients locally to support local trade, as well as italian suppliers to give our customers a real treat and tastes of Italy.
We went before 7pm and discovered we could chose our meal from the early bird menu which quite extensive. The portions were also very generous (we were given a box to take away uneaten pizza), the food was piping hot and my only gripe was my ham and cheese pancake was swamped with cheese sauce. The waitress was friendly and helpful and the service was good but our table was jammed next to another with noisy customers and next to that was another where the proprietor was conversing loudly with other customers...not a place for a quite meal!

Chimes Cafe - only open during the day
Having walked around Harlow Carr with a friend we walked to Betty's to find a long queue. Rather disheartened we decided to go to Ripon and came across Chimes. What a fabulous find. Lovely service and seriously the BEST SCONES IN Yorkshire. There are unusual flavours to try, so if you're in Ripon get your self there to have a wonderful drink or lunch.

All of our food is freshly prepared in house by our talented brigade of chefs. We are lucky to be located in an area rich with excellent local produce. This is reflected in our menu’s that change seasonally enabling us to use ingredients when they are at there best. We offer a wide selection of meat and vegetarian meals, with a mouth watering desserts menu alongside a carefully chosen wine list to compliment your meals.
Excited about our visit as the menu looks great. Unfortunately both the food and drink were disappointing. Scotch egg lacked seasoning and flavour. Both the duck and venison had nice elements but were salty and too much of a mixture of things to work as a tasty meal. Wine and beer were also poor. Service was fine but that was the only plus. Such a shame.

Just had to stop here for an ice cream dessert, only a short drive from Fountains Abbey. I had a double scoop tub, which sadly meant I missed out on many of the flavours available. Chocolate was great, but the raspberry fudge was even better! Plenty of Seating in the parlour, and parking outside too. I had no trouble pushing a wheelchair in there. Maybe next time we'll stop for the full lunch!

Established in 1985 and serving traditional Italian food of high quality at competitive prices, situated in Ripon's oldest street Kirkgate. This grade 2 listed building is the home of the city first and longest established restaurant with dining area over three floors. Private parties can be catered for in a separate dining area on the first floor.there is an extensive "specials" blackboard which offers seasonal dishes like game or seafood and offering a early bird menu daily from 4.30 p.m. until 6.30 p.m.and we also cater for specialist dietary requirement.
Highly recommended on Trip Advisor and free wi-fi.
now open for Sunday lunch from 12.30 p.m 2.30 p.m.
We looked on Trip Advisor to find some where nice to eat and finally decided to give Prima a go. The decision left us all disappointed out of the party of eight 4 of the meals were inedible, the cannelloni was disgusting, a chicken pasta dish tasted burnt and the (alleged lobster tail) ravioli was very poor with the lobster tail filling just tasting like a cheap fish paste. Staff were apologetic but went a long way to ruining the night. The guy in charge said he would remove cost of inedible meals, when the bill arrived nothing had been taken off. Which led to more discussion in the end the cost of 2 meals were taken off not the 4. I wouldn’t go back even if the food was for free

Was recommended to have Sunday lunch here but was really disappointed .
We ordered the large sized Sunday lunch and can I just say really glad I didn't order the smaller one.
Got a small bowl of veg to share between us we originally thought it was a portion for one and two small roast potatoes each.
Gravy was of the instant kind and hadn't been mixed properly so rather lumpy.

Service is great and atmosphere is relaxed and suitable for families, but sadly we weren't impressed by the food. We'd booked to celebrate my daughters fantastic GCSE results but came away underwhelmed. Both of the different types of risottos were overcooked and the pizzas were underdone and floppy. Desert was better including the lemon cheesecake and chocolate cake. Rather disappointing, sorry.

The Wakeman's House cafe is a traditional tearoom, offering a range of tasty homemade sweet treats - scones, traybakes, sponge cakes, Bakewell tart and apple pie to name but a few.Our light lunches include sandwiches, paninis, homemade soups and quiches, toasted sandwiches, oven baked potatoes, pate and ploughmans lunch and afternoon tea.Enjoy a visit to our cafe which is situated on the corner of Ripon's historic market square. We assure a warm, friendly welcome with great service and excellent value for money.
For the second visit since moving into Ripon with the Army, it is safe to say we have finally found our 'go to' cafe!
The service is amazing and staff are extremely friendly. A really warm and welcoming atmosphere and the building is so quirky and natural inside and has a real olden times vibe about it none of this modern day cafe.
My Nannan and Mum were extremely impressed and said they will be going here again when they visit us next.
The food is brilliant and prices are affordable.
We definitely recommend Wakemans Cafe for a lovely lunch out with family. Children are welcomed!
