Gourmet food to enjoy in house or to go. Dessertery specializes in scratch made pastries and cupcakes.
For a friend's birthday, I ordered the two most popular cakes, a chocolate mousse and chocolate/raspberry. Both got rave reviews as being far more delicious than the usual overly-frosted and tasteless birthday cakes from other places. If you want larger cakes, order early since this is a small restaurant. The prices were similar to gourmet cakes elsewhere. .

Samuel's in Rhinebeck is a small cafe/confectioner's shop rich with the scent of coffee, sweets, and the sound of people's voices enjoying a treat in cozy comfort. The walls are lined with jars and boxes of assorted candies reminiscent of the General Store of the mid-20th century and earlier. Be sure to look up at the shelves just below the ceiling for the antique toys and games which are a real treat. If one is old enough, the experience is very like time travel and, for the younger folk, it's just a lot of fun being in a genuine candy shop. I've never seen a disappointed child in the place nor an adult, for that matter. The prices are reasonable and the coffee and pastries excellent. I'll not comment on the famous owners as that would take away from the element of surprise and delight of the shop itself.
The store is quite small and very popular so one should keep that in mind if traveling with a large group. It is not handicapped accessible for anyone in a wheelchair but easily manageable if one walks with a cane. Restrooms are available to customers only. Stop in if you're traveling through Rhinebeck and enjoy.

Hungry for breakfast or lunch the Bagel Shop prepares consistently good food. The sandwiches are always delicious as are the beer batter fries and summer salads. My favorite go to sandwich is The Pilgrim on toasted rye. My husband loves THE SLAMMER or the Reuben with those decadent beer batter fries. Call your order in and it will be waiting for you. You can always pick up cold beverages including summer iced teas when you are pick up.
It is busy, because it is good!

We ate there while in town on business. Midweek in January it wasn't busy. The owner and his family operate the business, and they really take an interest in their customers. They are very nice, friendly people. More importantly, the food is great. They focus; they have a limited menu and obviously strive for quality. Many kinds of pizza, but clearly the focus is the pizza. The spinach salad was excellent, as was our pizza. Everything which is cooked is cooked in the brick oven, which they imported from Italy, and which is in the same room as the dining area. The atmosphere is "bistro", with banquette tables, etc. They have a nice selection of wine at reasonable prices. As you can see from the number of our reviews, we eat in a lot of restaurants, and this was some of the best pizza we've had. Definitely worth a visit.

Traditional Indian Cuisine with a Cotemporary Twist. We serve authentic Indian cuine with fresh quality ingredients.
We are used to very traditional Indian dishes, and this was NOT traditional. We participated in the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week menu and were quite happy. My husband had venison and pineapple kabobs that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. It's very difficult (in my opinion) to properly cook venison. I had some sort of delicious fried kale appetizer with pomegranate seeds that blew our minds. I had a fantastic chicken dish with rice and spaghetti squash with traditional Indian spices and my husband had tandoori duck. Delicious!! This is a small place that is very stylish and cozy. My only complaint was at the end of the dinner when we ordered coffee with our desserts, it was too cold to drink. There were also a few specks of coffee grounds in my cup, so I'm sure they used a french press. Other than that, the food was fantastic!

The menu was intriguing and the baked goods looked tasty. We had sandwiches for lunch - breads were delicious and the grilled cheese was good but the Turkey brie lacked any kind of significant flavor. The cranberry chutney needed more punch or character. We also had cookies that seemed to be made of butter but they similarly seemed to lack the sweetness that makes a traditional cookie extra special. The guy behind the counter was also a bit grumpy which added to my disappointment with this place. But don't get me wrong, the place wasn't bad, it just wasn't great.

Every course was creative, visually beautiful, delicious. Servers are excellent. The little hot rolls are wonderful, served hot with crunchy crust. The fried oyster appetizer is amazing, served in the shell, with spicy mayo, cold crisp veggies, and topped with caviar; and fried for just a moment. Decor is charming. Try for a table that has more space around it than most; a bit crowded.
Wish they offered desserts that were more like pastry and less like creme brûlée. But that’s just me.

This review is a difficult one to write. We have been to Terrapin many times and always left satisfied after a fine meal. My second date with my wife was at this restaurant eight years ago so it holds many fine memories for us both.Today sadly this was a very different story. We stopped at Terrapin for a late lunch approx 2:00pm and were in the Bistro where we have had really good experiences in the past. We ordered the Macadamia Nut Calamari followed by the Soul Plate, and Fish & Chips.
The calamari was very good, lightly fried golden and delicious. After the calamari we waited about 25 minutes for our entrees to arrive. We always share our entrees so we get to taste everything. The soul plate consists of a fried chicken breast, macaroni & Cheese, Mashed potato's and gravy with collard greens. The collards were quite good but it ends there. The fried chicken could not have been freshly fried, it had no crunch, the breading was hard but not crunchy as if it was fried sometime earlier and reheated in a dry oven. The chicken itself was dry and tasteless.
We had poor luck with the fish & chips also. The fries were good but the fish itself was not fried properly, it had a mushy texture, no crunch at all.
We were thinking that possibly the kitchen had issues with our entrees and that was why we had the long wait between courses. We left feeling confused about what we just experienced.
I hope this was just an off day as we both really enjoy this restaurant so much but today was a hard experience to swallow.

The Saturday night special was fried chicken $24. Mark was our server and did an excellent job explaining how it is prepared. It was excellent. Perhaps the best ever. Nicely plated and crisp, juicy, w crown maple syrup on the side and very tangy cole slaw. Mustard or horse radish.
Bread was fresh w nice crust served w olive oil.
Here's the challenge. Everything on the menu is "different " from the norm. You really have to be open to new tastes. And at a pretty high price. There is nothing ordinary about everything served perhaps the steak is the exception. As I said, not for everyone.
Beautiful job gutting and renovating the house. Outdoor tables on street and balcony level. Restaurant is small. A little cramped. We ate upstairs. Wife and I were seated next to a party of six. Very loud, shouting, huge laughs- never ended. Very disturbing but I think the restaurant wants this vibe because there not an iota of sound proofing anywhere.
So my wife requests that I wear slacks on a Saturday nite to better restaurants. Virtually everyone else wore jeans, cut offs, shorts and sandals. So dress is very casual as noted when the staff wear jeans. No problem with that.
Plenty of street and parking lot parking.
Our server was mark. Very cordial and knowledgeable and efficient.
I know it's a farm to table restaurant. The selection may likely be a bit exotic for many. But try it. It's interesting. Very busy bar as well.
A couple small things. I asked one of the staff for the wifi password. She said she didn't know and told me to go downstairs and ask. Wrong answer. Should have gotten the password for me.
Another staff member was serving water to a table next to us. My glass was empty but he didn't look and just walked by. When serving water always check other tables especially when there are only six or so tables.
Also, I had encourage the owner to install some sound proofing. My wife and could literally not hear each other over the shouting and laughing of the table next to us. That is the reason we won't return. We just couldn't enjoy the overall experience and left in about an hour rather than staying for dessert or after dinner drinks.
See pics of the chicken and menu plus others.

A small intimate restaurant teasing out the charms of local ingredients!
Visited due to the high Trip Advisor rating. Interesting little place in the downstairs of the "chef's" house. Waitress was incredibly impressed with the dinner we were about to have. However after bragging about her drink making skill she screwed mine up (and then attempted to make it right.....but was forced to admit the bar was out of sweet vermouth). Huh???.....in a "five star" restaurant? Meal was very good but I wasn't thrilled when the chef invited his big dog into the place to wander between the tables. Very expensive.
