Porto Empedocle (Sicilian: Marina) is a town and comune in Italy on the coast of the Strait of Sicily, administratively part of the province of Agrigento. It is the namesake of Empedocles (Greek: Ἐμπεδοκλῆς, c. 490 – 430 BC), a Greek pre-Socratic philosopher and a citizen of the city of Agrigentum (present-day Agrigento), in his day a Greek colony in Sicily. The primary industries of Porto Empedocle are agriculture, fishing, ironworking, pharmaceuticals and rock salt refining.

Dined last night here. Hotel gave it a big wrap. Had Caponata and obergine parmagiama for starters which were nice. My spaghetti Ricci was uninspiring, the lamb shank was better. The best course was the ravioli crostacia. Wine reasonably priced. The best aspect was its location on Via Roma where many Sicilian families gather of an evening.

Food and wine throughout Sicily are great, but Trattoria Torre Carlo V is exceptional. The decor is simple but the food is extraordinary -- fresh ingredients, expertly prepared, and presented by warm and gracious hosts.
If you are visiting Agrigento or the surrounding area, do yourself a favor and have dinner here. Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the adjacent street in Porto Empedocle also provide a nice place to walk after dinner.

Visited as 2 couples. Gracious hosts did not mind we had not booked. Had shared entrees of seafood both fresh and fritta, which were nice. My main of spaghetti Del mare was awesome, but the spaghetti gamberi had prawn heads without bodies! Wines were great- local Shiraz a winner at E16.

Came here on the recommendation of my guide. The pizza was fantastic. Very well cooked with a nice crisp thin crust. He recommended the mussel soup, which was also extremely delicious! Pizza and soup was exactly what we needed. Definitely a no-frills local hang out....MoreGrazie

The one star minus is because we had to wait for 1 hour from approx 9 to 10 pm as this is the prime time where Italians go for dinner. Waiter very friendly, price was 26€ and included wine, water and a lot of food. Take the kiwi plate for 10€/person.

In the beautiful coast of Porto Empedocle, near Agrigento, a few km from the Turkish and a few miles from the Valley of the Temples is the Mediterranean restaurant. The fish is always fresh thanks to the many local fishing boats. The fish specialties are our strong point. The Mediterranean is also Pizzeria, where our pizzas are baked in a wood oven, and food products that we use are of the highest quality. At the restaurant you can organize banquets for any event, dinners and lunches. For lovers of the sea, the bathing establishment The Mediterranean, there's loungers, umbrellas, showers and bar service. The restaurant has a beautiful veranda overlooking the sea. Our wine bar, is waiting for a drink.
We were staying up the road and didn't want to eat in our hotel every night and spotted this restaurant. It's clearly popular with locals and serves a variety of dishes - pizza, pasta, fish. All very tasty at very reasonable prices. The view over the sea was lovely. We returned for a second night. The head waiter's recommendations were delicious.

Lovely waiter who was really friendly and helpful with recommendations despite our poor Italian we managed with smiles and gestures. We all had granita (lemon, orange, almond) which came with a plateful of the best warm aromatic brioche which you eat with granita spooned into it - yum yum.

Four of us had a lunch in Il Molok (Porto Empedocle; port of Agrigento), after going for a visit to Scala dei Turchi, since it seemed interestingly described on TA.
Don't let the simple exterior and setting mislead you.
It was such a unforgettable dining and quite a memory of the original Sicilian recipes provided with warm and cozy hospitality.
Since there was lot of stuff on the list that we wanted to try we went after owners advice and ordered daily fish menu.
Litterally, everything we touched was excellent and we couldn't stop eating, although at one point we were pretty stuffed.
Ingredients are fresh, menu daily formed according to what's available, and most importantly, food is prepared with obvious love and skill. We cought a glimpse of the kitchen staff; very charmant gentleman, the cook, and two youngsters, obviously making an excellent team with the cordial and helpful owner who will assist you with everything you need, while at the same time not imposing at all.
Lastly, though not most importantly, since the quality is top; the bill was more than resonable, we even felt kind of underpaying for such a lush and indimenticabile lunch (per capita: plate of 6 antipasti (marinated sardines with caramelized onions, cous-cous with ricci and sea fruits, octopus salad with vongole and cozze, caponata..), 2 primi (risotto with shell fish, and pasta with baby squids), 2 secondi (grilled calamari and king prawns), mandorle semifreddo, pretty good house wine, espresso, a little over 20euros).
THanks to the staff and buona fortuna! Hope to eat in Il Molok next time we visit!
NOTICE: we asked locals around the centre of Porto Empedocle, having problems finding the restaurant; it is situated right opposite the ferry dock, across the main road, by the parking lot (P.zza Sansone). You can reach it heading south of the town's central (pedestrian) street, through the little alleys. VEeeery easy to find knowing this information.

Our host told us about La Spinola restaurant across the road as we didn't want to drive given we had been on the road all day. It is a very big venue with lots of tables. We sat outside and were warmly greeted by a member of the family. This is a family run business with all in attendance. Some of the menu was not available as they only serve fresh produce. We selected to share the fish caponata. It was a huge serve. My partner who is Italian says it's the best 'ever' tasted. They also brought 2 complimentary seafood arancini. We have never eaten seafood arancini before but they were delicious. Then came our fried calamari and prawns plus a seafood pizza. Also both generous serves and we weren't disappointed. Full of flavour and very yummy indeed. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It's slightly out of town but well worth seeking out. Great value with wine and sparkling water at 45 euros.

Good spot for a quick coffee and focaccia. Lots of pastries etc if you like. Plenty of wine and beer too. Service is efficient and despite being on a busy corner it is quiet and pleasant inside. Recommended
