Visited here last week with a group of friends for our 6 monthly reunion. The place was busy with a lovely atmosphere. Service was good and the menu choices extensive. Everyone agreed the food was delicious and well presented. Several indulged in mouth watering desserts which again were really good. All in all a great dining experience.

Called for breakfast in party of 3 - 2 of whom were disabled. I had phoned the day before to book and had been told that they were taking no more bookings. When I suggested that we go elsewhere, the girl said that we would be ok to come and that they hadn't turned anyone away since they started the Christmas bookings. When I said we would be there at 9, she said to definitely come and there would be a table.
When we arrived, the manageress was rigid and inflexible and insisted that the only tables that were available were upstairs which, without a lift, were clearly inaccessible for us. We were left standing for some time while the waitresses tried to negotiate to get us seated. Eventually, we were seated but told, several times, that the table would need to be vacated before 10. The manageress then changed this to 9.50. Other guests arriving seemed to welcomed warmly with the manageress shaking hands. The service was good and the food was lovely but the visit was ruined by the lack of welcome and the delay in getting us seated. My sister and myself go out often and other establishments are very considerate to our disabilities. Disappointing to have been subjected to this treatment at Ballydougan.

it seems really picky not to give this place 5 stars, it is literally a 4.8 out of 5 but I just felt it fell down on a few small tiny, tiny details so to give it full marks would mean I'd have to start throwing out glowing reviews to my local Greggs every time the sausage roll came out with that perfect golden brown tinge.
We were visiting for one night from England and chose this a) for the glowing reviews b) because it just sounded like somewhere that served proper food and c) because it rhymed with my daughters name and we're sad, lonely people who don't have a life any more.
After a 20 minute drive from our B&B we found a bit of a tired looking pub and at first we thought we were in the wrong place. We were taken round the back of the bar to the restaurant area which was cosy if not spectacular.
Both waiters were friendly and knowledgeable and couldnt do enough to help. We chose the hummus starter which was the only let down really. It was a little watery and the tapenade was a bit minging but that was our own fault for choosing it when we both hate olives.
If we were a little underwhelmed by the starters it was the opposite for the mains. My girlfriend chose
a chicken Kiev which I thought was a bit basic and I ordered chicken. On top of a steak. Chicken and steak. Together in one meal. Genius. This was on a sourdough bread with creamy, peppery mushrooms.
The Kiev was no ordinary Kiev because ordinary kievs taste like a crap school dinner, but this was fantastic. On a bed of mash with a red wine jus if I remember rightly, it was beautiful. The steak dish was even better, cooked medium because I'm a pathetic excuse for a steak eater but done to perfection. Genuinely would have been happy paying double for both the meals.
In the meantime our 9 month old was giving herself a face mask with a beautiful bowl of mash and veg, which had been prepared even though it wasn't on the menu. This kept her happy enough to not bother us which is worth an extra star on its own. The staff (and other diners) also didn't bat an eyelid as she screamed in delight with each mouthful which kept us at ease for all the courses.
We finished off by pretending we didn't want a dessert before sharing a chocolate fudge cake/brownie i've forgot what it was because I can't stop thinking about the chicken on top of the steak. It was really good though.
To top it off, without us asking they allocated one of the meals on to the 3 course early bird menu because we had come in just as it was ending which again was just wonderful service.
I'm literally only marking it down because I thought the hummus was a bit rubbish and they didn't give us a steak knife, it's not petty because it's still 80% and if I'd got 80% in my English language A Level I might have made it as a food critic instead of having to resort to Trip Advisor.
I would go again in a heartbeat.

Hadn't been in such a long time. Booked late on Saturday afternoon for Saturday night was no problem. Friendly quick service, lovely interior. The food was ok. Got starter of mushrooms and wasn't many on a plate. Got chicken Parma ham but chicken was dry tasting and had to use the sauce to soak it up. Got buttery mash and to be honest was rotten - not seasoned or anywhere near buttery. Very dry tasting. I didn't eat it. Dessert was nice. Be a while before I'm back

When visiting family in Portadown, we usually come here. A good choice of pub meals - gammon, fish and chips, lasagne and garlic bread, steak (cocknbull) are an example
Lovely chunky chips and champ.
However, the portions are so big that we never have room for dessert.
The usual beers are available. If you like craft beers the off licence next door does a great selection which you can ask for
A reliable choice
