We are a remote Restaurant and Retreat with spectacular views and special Meals. All homemade products and Herbs from the garden. View the Sardine Run with Dolphin and whale sitings aplenty or just watch the waves crashing on the famous rock, The Gap or Blowhole at Second Beach. Monkeys jumping on the roof are a daily occurence and awesome hikes right on your doorstep. Special visits to surrounding sites like Magwa Falls can be organised. We have credit card facilities Now.
We spent two nights here as we enjoyed it so much, the accommodation being quirky and fun. Nothing was too much for our host and her helpers and the surrounds are really very pretty (once one overlooks the rubbish on the sides of the road) - this is South Africa folks.
We had fresh delicious crayfish tails with garlic butter served with an interesting array of side dishes. The Malva pudding was simply divine and I had a second helping. Their mezza and various wraps too tasted good the the breakfast was everything on wanted. We loved it.

This place is also reviewed here (not by me) http://www.modernoverland.com/south-africa/eastern-cape/port-st-johns/wood-n-spoon/ Its a fantastic little local eatery run by the people who own it who cook the most amazing food - burgers, curry, sandwhice s and breakfast. Just amazing. They are super nice and its a great little atmosphere./wood-n-spoon/
This place is what Port St Johns is all about - great view, right on the beach, wonderfully relaxed atmosphere with African music playing and the staff chatting to each other and laughing away.
The food was nice too - I had a big t-bone steak with chips, but there is seafood available too. It doesn't get any fresher than this, everything being caught off the rocks about 100 metres away.
And this is not a tourist-trap - the prices are much lower than the other restaurants in town - only R79 for the steak compared to R120 at another place.
Super-cool!

Steve's Pub & Restaurant conveniently situated in the main road of Port St Johns, caters for your every need. Seating inside or outside. The best wood fired pizza's in Port St Johns. A vast menu with something for everyone. Fantastic speciality drinks and shakes. We can also cater for small functions.
Sadly no fresh fish or local meats identified on a menu which was far too long and quite confusing. Despite this the staff were friendly and the food was tasty, even if it was cooked from frozen food. Prices reasonable and good atmosphere, just need some fresh local produce on the menu!

The Water Front Restaurant is located on the banks of the mighty Umzimvubu River on the left at the entrance into the quaint town of Port St Johns. Ideally situated on the river bank, this excellent restaurant boasts impressive views of the towering Mountains and lustful river from their large wooden deck. Their food is exceptional. Each meal is prepared with great care and is always cooked to perfection. Specializing in Seafood and Pizza, the Water Front also offers a wide variety of meat dishes, delicious vegetarian food, steak, pasta, lasagne, fish, and even fresh crayfish. This is the only restaurant in Port St Johns that offers crayfish year round. The Water Front also has a full bar and a great selection of wines.
Every day the food menu changes so each time we visited I got to taste something new. It's a great idea and better than seeing the same old menu every time you visit a cafe.
There is always a vegetarian version of the dish-of-the-day which is prepared with just as much love and attention as the meat option. Plus the homemade sauces and dressings are first class.
Great selection of non-alcoholic drinks like fresh juices, herbal teas, good coffee, milkshakes, etc.
I've only been a few times but on each occasion the staff were always friendly and super efficient.

As a business traveler, I enjoy stopping over at this restaurant for a bite as I travel along the coastal route of the R61 towards Durban. I would say their dishes are just out of this world. Great ocean breeze whilst dining, fantastic tropical surroundings. Amazing service and friendliest most efficient staff, although the waiting time tends to quite lengthy. They must just keep it up. I visit this splendid restaurant every time when travelling on the R61 on work trips.
