Umami Is a locally sourced, solar powered sustainable cafe in the heart of antique ally in Northwood NH. We take pride in locally sourcing our meats and veggies and working with local farms while celebrating and serving the most savory, umami flavors and dishes. Grow it, Prepare it, Share it, Umami.
I was in the area and a friend recommended Umami. What a lovely surprise to find such a casual, funky, spacious and diverse place with fantastic food.
Many gluten-free options, interesting twists, asian elements, amazingly fresh eggs from local farmers. I had a salad, my friends tried the burger and the sweet potato cake, all excellent. I was sorry the place was closing otherwise I would have ordered more to try. We were there for Sunday brunch and they had a live bluegrass band, fun!
Worth trying!

Wish that I had not. I travel through here a bit on my MC, and usually stop to meet up with NH friends. Never had I stopped for food, until...
Stopped by a return trip from VT. with a couple of friends from GA on the way back to ME. We all got a burger and fries...terrible. Really bad..I was surprised! It looks like a classic roadside place; it may have been once upon a time. The worst burger that I have had in a long time, and overpriced to boot. I could have made better fires in my oven.
Beware, intrepid traveler...

Met a friend here as it is conveniently located right at the tragic circle. We were in and out of there with a full belly in an hour. Soup was good but a bit salty.

The drive through was so slow... at one point the intercom was not off and we heard a complete coworker conversation. We gave up and started to go in as it was quicker....less convenient but quicker.

It's a small, local hangout with only about five or six tables, but it's a great place to get some diner style home cooking for breakfast. The usual fare, cooked up fresh to order. Friendly owners/waitstaff. Downside: coffee wasn't that great. Maybe try a different brand that isn't so bland and weak? Breakfast places need to have really good coffee!!

What a pleasure, knowing that a wonderful experience awaits the traveler. Our second visit, we arrived in the afternoon. Our usual table was available next to the fireplace and we headed for it. The choices were the same but, just as satisfying. Every time we travel this way, we'll be stopping by. If one gets the chance: GO! You won't be disappointed.

Came through the drive through, pordered 2 sandwiches and 2 collattas. Looking inside a young man was eating while making food while making it with his plastic gloves on. Not very sanitary if they go in ones mouth. Wont be back. and threw my sandwiches in the trash

We've dined here quite a few times and the food is excellent! I always get either the Salmon or Fish & Chips and they are both consistently great! I love the pub atmosphere but they also have a family friendly room in the front. They have entertainment on Saturday evenings. Love this place!!

Had the cheddar/bacon burger - ordered medium & was a touch over, but had some pink.
I think it had the juices pressed out of it while it was on the grill. Cooks often do that but shouldn't..... that's what makes a nice juicy burger. Luckily there was a slice of tomato on it so there was some moistness.

Happy Family was among my favorite Chinese restaurants with the best Hot and Sour soup anywhere. But since the former owners stepped down, it's just not the same. The Hot and Sour soup was a disappointment the time we visited not long after the change of hands. However, the rest of the meal was fine. We hadn't been in quite a while unti recently when we thought we'd give it another chance. We didn't have to worry about the soup as it is no longer offered with the lunch menu. I tried the Beef and Broccoli with fried rice and an egg roll and hubby had Kung Pao chicken with the same options.
The rice was saturated with a sauce of some sort and therefore was wet and mushy. In the past, the beef was good sized pieces of barely stir fried meat served with tender crisp broccoli. It seemed to be fried and was very dry and tasteless. Broccoli a bit overdone and all swimming in the same reddish (rather sickening) sauce.
Hubby's rice the same consistency as mine and his Kung Pao also loaded with the same sauce. The egg rolls were fine.
Sorry, Happy Family, we were very unhappy with all your changes.
