New Zealand's oldest operating Restaurant, The Gables offers fine food and wine in a stunning waterfront setting.
We have been to the gables restaurant now for 18 years and never been disappointed. Great friendly service with excellent food with a stunning view over the water. Book early as you may not get a table.

Boutique wine growing on a sunny peninsular in Russell. Casual style eatery serving gourmet local produce platters and wood fired pizzas to complement our wines. We also have a cellar door offering wine tastings & sales, panoramic ocean and vineyard views. Vineyard & bush walk on offer if you want to take a stroll after lunch.
A great place to eat, drink, relax and enjoy the view.
It is quite a drive down from the main road down an unsealed road to get to the winery and restaurant, but well worth the drive. The location is beautiful - tables overlooking the vines across to the bay beyond. The food was delicious - a lovely selection of gourmet pizzas or tasty platters, and of course the wine was a perfect match.
A great way to spend an afternoon.

The Pizza Barn is Northland's go-to destination for good vibes and delicious food. Whether it's incredible pizza, massive salads, or delicious McLeod's Brewery craft beer you're after, the world famous Pizza Barn has something for everyone.
Stopped in for a quick dinner around 5pm, this place has been recommended by many & definitely lives up the hype. We had to wait a little while for a seat, but such a great place to order a beer (normal imported or a selection of McLeods craft beers) and pull up a chair while you wait. The wait for good was around 15 to 20 mins but the squid plate and the prawn pizza was absolutely to die for. The large pizzas are huge and so full of toppings they easily feed two people per one pizza. There is ample parking around the streets & a child playground outside. Recommend and would for sure come back

Provenir is a modern local restaurant with a seasonally driven menu. The centre of the restaurant is the kitchen where ingredient quality is non-negotiable. Provenir emphasises the age old formula of simple ingredients cooked well, freshness with a sense of energy, a little bit theatrical, true to life with quality and a story. Hand made, artisanal, from farm to chef. We know our farmers, fisherman, wine makers & growers; from Rod McDonald with his Quarter Acre stunning Syrah, to Bill French who raises our Perendale Lamb, they are just a few of our team. Head Chef - Marcus Berndt
breakfast was great and the wait and kitchen staff really accommodated our requests.. I think dinner would probably be good there but I did not try it

Our small family loved Cafe Jerusalem. Situated in a very leafy arcade next to several other restaurants - the waitress even said that we could get food for the 3-year-old from one of the other restaurants if there was nothing suitable on their menu - it's similar to Whangarei's excellent Fat Camel in its Mediterranean/Jewish food. Both healthy and tasty and of course easy to order a whole lot of small plates to share. The pita was fresh and warm (and there was plenty of it), the rice was saffron, the falafels were small tasty balls while we also had large spicy falafel-like things that I can't remember the name of. The spicy soup was delicious and helped clear up my head cold! This was an all-round top experience and the food came out very quickly (which really helps when you're got an easily bored 3-year-old).

We have been one of Paihia’s most popular restaurants since 2006 serving the finest Thai cuisine under the name ‘THAI GARDEN CAFÉ’ now rebranded as ‘GREENS’. Keeping the same Thai chefs, we are proud to announce that we have introduced full Indian meal, which will be served by a new team of highly experienced Indian Chefs.Lovingly prepared, authentic Thai and Indian cuisine, with a few surprisingly Kiwi twists – that’s what we have on menu at GREEN’S. With a wonderful mix of Thai and Indian dishes, you will enjoy the fusion of spice and flavour. From traditional dishes like Pad-Thai to Indian Butter Masala Chicken and new fish dishes which are closely guarded, using the finest quality ingredients is the speciality at GREENS.At GREEN’S, the dining experience is as important as the food itself. Take a seat in our modern and stylish water-front restaurant, and enjoy great service from our waiting staff.Whether here for lunch, dinner or a private function, enjoy an atmosphere that combines the Indo-Thai warmth with the friendliness Paihia is famed for.
We visited here twice on the recommendation of our accommodation hosts. Both times delicious food, both Indian and Thai. The owner was very hospitable and prices were very reasonable.

What an extraordinary meal at Top Sail Restaurant in Onerahi near Whangarei.
Debbie (full ‘o charm Welsh lady) and her super chef, Mr. Lanky Kiwi husband Ian, have a truly memorable food experience on offer out by the water.
Our starters included the salmon and Bream Bay scallops with wasabi aioli and the roasted yellow capsicum, stuffed with buckwheat watercress and date risotto, the starters paired with the suggested wines: Peregrine Pinot Gris for the former and Clos Marguerite SB for the latter.
Being our last NZ meal of the trip, we both elected to savour the rack of lamb special of the evening... and boy, it was quite special, spectacular and memorable! Delicious rack (4 apiece) pink and tender with a Dijon, moutard à l’ancienne mustard rub on the edges, a jus to die for and a memorable Kiwi and mint compote to really have you melting in your seat, served with home grown leek and onion magic washed with a Marlbro’ Clos Marguerite . The mains were accompanied by mini roast potatoes, an original lettuce slaw salad with red wine vinaigrette and fresh home baked mini bread buns. All to die for!
$215 for 2 happy, satisfied diners.
Many thanks Ian and Debbie for a memorable meal.

We stayed at the hotel here, and were very surprised that a restaurant named “Food” could produce such consistently excellent and varied fare. In short, other than breakfast, you could survive nicely here for quite a while without getting in your car. We chose to eat here repeatedly over our three day stay, sampling among other things two curry dishes, the salads, a fish special, and their filet. All were very tasty, and the friendly service and unusual tropical environment made this a very memorable visit.

We made the trip here yesterday to do some wine tasting and have lunch. We enjoyed tasting the variety of wines, and of course had a bottle with our lunch. The dining room setting is lovely. We were looking out over one of the vineyards, but undercover from the rain. We all loved our meals, including the coffee and desserts. The service was great as well. Would definitely recommend this place.

The only Thai restaurant in Whangarei which received the prestigious "Thai Select" Award from the Prime Minister of Thailand in March 2013 to certify and recognise Thai restaurants outside Thailand which serve authentic Thai cuisine of the highest standard.
We ate here twice during our five days in Whangerei. It really was that good! Great food, excellent service, reasonable price. What more can anyone say?
