My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary last night at Le Vieux Jean. We had their 10th Anniversary Menu and it was extraordinary. It consisted of five courses each one perfectly - let me repeat - perfectly prepared. Venison, scallops, halibut, were each accompanied by a lovely sauce. The dessert for my wife was a confection of apples and chocolate and mine was a plate of cheeses. We each had three different glasses of wine and this restaurant is absolutely superb in choosing wines. The service is professional, knowledgable and friendly. This is what one means when one talks of fine dining.

The restaurant is difficult to get to by car - the nearest car park is the Phoenix park garage 300 metres or so away. Its easier for pedestrians - there is a little arch that leads from Bagijnhof into the centre of town.
But once you get there it is lovely. The building itself is 17th century and beautifully decorated inside and out. We had a table located under the removable roof and in the summer, with the roof open on a warm evening it was excellent.
We really didn't want a full four course or five course meal so had the three item selection of starter, main, dessert. Everything was beautifully presented as in a fine dining restaurant. But I found the food just a little bland. I could have done with a bit more seasoning. My companions were perfectly happy though.
Wine was good and the Puglia red house wine very good value.
Service was very good and contributed to a very pleasant ambiance
I enjoyed my evening, just couldn't quite give it an "excellent"vote.

Stads-koffyhuis

The Stads-Koffyhuis combines the comfort of yesteryear with the quality of today. Get acquainted with local artisan products and award winning culinary creations in the ‘Living Room of Delft’. Whether it’s the homemade apple pie, the aromatic pancakes or the generously topped hamburgers, typical Dutch cosiness goes beyond coffee and cappuccino.

Don't be fooled: this place is bigger than you think when you first walk in. It streches all the way to the end. Enjoyed lunch here, nice service, nice sandwhiches and good coffee. The front part of the cafe, where you enter, is especially lovely. There's also a part near the garden that looked great.

The restaurant is on the Beestenmarkt, a lively square with several restaurants and bars around it. It is cosy and at the same time spacious inside, surrounded by tasteful decor, with each table having adequate space around it while preserving an intimate feel. Our friendly and helpful waitress recommended the 'Trappisten Stoverij' a typical Dutch slow cooked beef stew, which was delicious.

Would not have guessed that the quality of the food would be this good. The staff, the service, the food, the wine - it all fell into place. Had a great night out with a close friend and she could not have picked a better place. Will most certainly return.

As a great believer (and lover) of the vegetable based cuisine, I was looking forward to visit this restaurant which has one the best vegetables chef of Holland a few years in a row. Most of the experience was unusual or unexpected and therefore difficult to score. Instead of the standard 4 to 8 courses menu, this one has 16 ! At least that's what we were told. In reality, I think there were even more of them. Obviously, such a choice does not come in the traditional fashion. Each course was more like a toast at a reception. This has several (in my view undesirable) consequences. First, the portions are too small to get the real taste experience. One bite and that's it, no way to try again to get a better idea. Second, most of the "courses" came without cutlery and have to be eaten using your hands, real fingerfood so to speak and thirdly each course is like a stand-alone version of what you would normally find as one element of many on a plate. The menu was presented as a list of flags from countries where each individual "toast" was coming from. In most cases it is difficult to remember which food those flags represented. Two examples to make my case. There was a sort of green cream (or puree) from the vegetable kale (boerenkool) presented in a glass. While this would have been a perfect component of a more elaborated dish, on its own it was not a winner. More so because the few crumbs of bacon on top were much too salty. Similarly, one of the other "courses" was an ice cube of beef stock presented in a glass and poured over by hot water to create some Bouillon to drink. Sorry not my cup of tea... With this formula, there is no paring wines offering either.
To end with a positive note, the main course (somewhere number 14 or 15 on the list) was a small piece of Irish beef with some vegetables that were perfectly cooked and flavored. This was what I had hoped for in all the other courses. There were 4 micro-deserts of which the last one was a "Belgian" ice cream on a stick.
This was my first experience with this restaurant so I'm not going to conclude that it is not good. Some of the mini-courses did hint to what this chef is capable of. However, it is not my kind of formula and sorry to say, I won't take the risk again.

A very nice and ery good restaurant in the center of Delft. All dishes are fully prepared in-house. Even the bread is prepared based on their own recipe by a selected baker. Their cuisine is clearly French and will not disappoint.
The place is small and cosy with very attentive service. Prices are a bit higher than average in Delft, but you get excellent quality food for your money.

The three course set meal is $35 euros. The steak tartar comes in a three-tiered glass stack in which a poached egg was kept with infused smoke so when opened the smoke comes shooting out. It was most amazing. The main course of small hen was also excellent. It is good value when this level of cuisine is presented. The service was attentive. The decor is simple but nice.

Prawns perfectly fried, flavoured nicely and delicately with garlic and parsley, shell on but clearly de-veined in house ( well done, a bit of care). Home made burger crusted on the outside still pink in the middle - excellent. Good quality mozzarella with home-baked aubergine and delightful salad , all well dressed. Good wine list.
Lovely place, lovely staff - simple but really well executed.

We enjoyed excellent food in a rural setting. Innovative menu well prepared, good ingredients. Cod fish brandade starter was good, excellent local pork steak cooked properly and wonderful fresh walnut tart and coffee to finish. Interesting setting under trees with chickens & pet goats nearby. Impressed that they did not / would not overbook in case it rained and people had to move under shelter, which is what happened. Well done!
