Visited early evening, felt more like a cafe but prices on evening expensive for what I had. Service friendly but cafe style. Toilet right next next to kitchen and not too nice. Take away customers queue in front of tables adding to feel of cafe rather than bistro. Didn't feel authentic Italian. Think they have a cheap daytime menu so perhaps it would be fine for a daytime snack.

Travelling through to Stranraer, hunger got the better of us and we tried to find somewhere to eat in Newton Stewart. It's mostly one high street and we drove down, saw a couple of places but nothing caught our eye, so we took a right and headed round and back, when we spotted this place near to sainsburys. Not sure we would have seen it from the road.
Its all upstairs so didn't know how busy it might be, but when we went upstairs it was full apart from one large table that turned out to be booked. The guy who ran it said there would be a space in 10 mins, so we ordered and sat in the hallway where there was Seating available.
He came and got us shortly afterwards and we had two lovely jacket potatoes, with salad and dressing, generous filings and cooked to perfection.
A great find in the end, it said outside the business was for sale, but it looked to be doing a roaring trade and the quality of food was really good.

My family, 2 kids my wife and I were in the area for a few days and this was one of the few restauarants opened on the Sunday. Glad we chose this one. Lovely staff, great food, decent portions and well priced. Can't really fault it at all.

The Belted Galloway Visitor Centre offers Newton Stewart and area a facility for both visitors and locals. Situated in the main town car park directly behind the main street, the facility has its own 12 space car park, full disabled access with toilets and it is all on one level. The facility is privately owned and receives no public money so has to operate at a profit, despite this we offer free information and stage community events on an ongoing basis. In addition to Tourist Information the facility also provides heritage, historical and community information by wall boards, video and our "tartan history" on the roof and walls.
Stopped for a flat white and a Sandwich. Lovely welcoming place, traditional Scottish music playing and very friendly people. Dog friendly which is an added bonus. The coffee was good and sandwiches well made. Very nice experience

We're passionate about food which is why all our dishes are prepared using only the very finest local fresh produce where possible. As Scotland's larder, Galloway produces excellent beef, lamb and game whilst the area boasts some of the very best fish and shellfish anywhere in Scotland. We offer good wholesome food with a touch of creativity and always truly delicious!
Firstly I'm writing this review as a veggie , I'm sure meat eaters will have a different experience . We ate here on holiday in 2013 & were knocked out by the food , so I left a rave review here . My vegetarian dish then was salsify & Stilton torte with potatoe rosti, vegetable linguine & tomatoe sauce & it was excellent . My husband , who does eat fish , was just as pleased with his sea bass . So we were looking forward to having some meals here again whilst back in the area . We found the menu quite different this time - lots of meaty choices , the specials board also had three interesting meat main courses but no fish . My choices were down to pesto pasta , veggie burger or Thai veg curry . I asked the waitress if anything else was available & was told " only what is on the menu" . My husband had scampi & chips or fish & chips to choose from . He said his fish & chips were good but I can't say the same for my Thai curry . I would say the veg were poached in the thin Thai-style broth without being stir fried ? which made them soggy & tasteless . We didn't stay for puddings & won't be going a second time . Perhaps they are providing what most people ask for , which I can understand but , for us , it was very disappointing.

Friendly staff in this centrally located cafe. From a coffee or tea with a scone to a more substantial meal freshly cooked or just a plate of soup This is not only a cafe but a Christian bookshop.

Lovely relaxed cafe/bookshop in a gorgeous little town. I had fresh out of oven cherry/almond cake & great coffee. Peaceful ambience, nice garden, books aplenty and two people in the cafe who clearly are proud of the area they live in. Add this place to your to do list!
