Newcastle West (Irish: an Caisleán Nua Thiar) or simply Newcastle (an Caisleán Nua, formerly anglicized Castlenoe) is a town in west County Limerick, Ireland. It is the largest town in the county, excluding Limerick city, and sits on the River Arra which flows into the River Deel. Newcastle West is in the middle of a great bowl-shaped valley in West Limerick, known one time as the valley of the Wild Boar, apparently due to the abundance of this animal here when the area was thickly wooded. The crest of the town carries the image of a wild boar. Newcastle West is on the N21 road from Limerick to Tralee, between Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale. In 2016, the population of the town was 6,619.

We went as a recommendation by our B&B. I got a seafood casserole meal (I forgot what the name was). It was flavorful. They were accomodating for a large group and very attentive. All of the food is served searing hot-a good way to warm up. My fiance and his mother got salmon that looked delicious. If we had more time, we would've went back. Maybe next visit...

I stopped off at the above along with my friend for lunch today while passing thru NCW.The pub which is traditional in style is kept clean and tidy.We both went for their specials which we both enjoyed.I had their bacon and cabbage. When my meal arrived I asked for extra mash which our server obliged without any fuss.I found the staff both pleasant and friendly.I'd certainly go back there again the next time i'm in the area.

After touring nearby Desmond Hall our children were really hungry so I checked out TripAdvisor to see the nearest restaurant locations to where we were already parked in downtown Newcastle West. Marguerita's was a one minute walk just across the street and had great reviews so we popped in. The front entrance appears to be a bakery and shop where you can get sandwiches, salads, soups and pastries to go (take away) but there was a sign for a cafe at the back. The cafe was adorable!!!! Charming decor, cozy and snug little tables and nooks. The food was wonderful. My husband got a plate maybe called something with Fry in it. It was eggs and meats with potatoes and he loved it!!!! My kids enjoyed soups with brown bread. The Fresh baked brown bread was amazing! We also visited the shop on the way out for pastries to snack on down the road when the kids got hungry during the drive and local jams and honeys. This is a must stop if you are in the area, even if only for their delicious cappuccino. We were a family with 3 boys and they have kid friendly foods as well as paper abs crayons to keep little hands busy while they wait.

Staff are very friendly, service bit slow though as all food cooked to order. The sausages were great first visit but very poor on second visit, chips are ok though.

Visited twice in three years, both bad experiences. First was for 2 main courses and a side however was overcharged and poor standard of service. The second visit was for the takeaway side and after getting home discovered that the food was of such poor quality it made us both ill and had to stop eating it. Rang them up that night to complain and was given a very substandard excuse and told to bring it back. I went back following day and they claimed they didnt know anything about it. 15 mins later finally got refund. Wouldnt return again and certainly wouldnt recommend.

My wife and I stopped in after touring Desmond Hall. Kate welcomed us and the lite bites we each had were great - satay and a chicken stir fry. Because it was mid afternoon the shop was near empty and being tourists Kate graciously answered our questions about the area and then some. Loved the food and hospitality.

The Brown Morel opened in August 2015 and is located in the centre of Newcastlewest. The Baguio family are dedicated to providing a top class dining experience, and each guest will find the surroundings, service and atmosphere a delight. The Baguio's have been in the restaurant business for many decades, and Edilberto has won countless top class awards including the Michelin Bib Gourmand Award, the National Hospitality Award, and the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award.
First up, I've been to Brown Morel twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The lunch was quite substantial: a vegetarian focaccia that came with chips (fries) that kept me going all afternoon, and just yesterday evening we went in for some dinner before meeting friends.
We were handed the Early Bird menu, and I had the pork belly which came with mashed potato, steamed vegetables, apple cider jus and a bit of applesauce, and it was delicious. The other half went for the chicken curry, as a friend of his orders it regularly and loves it, and that came with rice, cucumber raita and a nan bread, and he liked it a lot.
For dessert we both had banoffee pie, and I've had banoffee pie in many places in Ireland, some of them were meh and others were good, but the Brown Morel's banoffee pie would be in my personal top five. It was LOVELY.
Finished with tea (me) and coffee (him), the tea was fine, the coffee wasn't great but no harm, always room for improvement! Recommended.

Sonas Healthfoods is an independently owned Healthfood Store and Cafe. Sonas has been serving the people of Newcastle and surrounding areas for close to 20 years. Late last year we moved to our new premises, No. 9 The Square. In doing so we expanded our offering and added a Cafe section to the store. We now serve freshly brewed coffee as well as a variety of organic salads and gluten free breads, cakes, muffins, truffles etc. As well as the front of store Cafe we also offer all the benefits of a tradition healthfood store. We stock a large range of supplements, as well a very big variety of fresh, chilled and frozen healthfoods and drinks. We are easy to find on the main sqaure in the centre of Newcastle West. We pride ourselves on our friendly and knowledgeable staff. Pop in sometime to say hello!
I had lunch and a coffee recently Sonas Healthfood and Cafe and it was such a pleasant experience. The salads were homemade and delicious and my coffee and chocolate treat were just enough to send me back to work in great form for the afternoon. The staff are so friendly and helpful and you can just tell that everybody is passionate about healthfood and nutrition. I will definitely making this a regular Friday lunchtime treat.
